METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PROCESSING A HIGH-CONCENTRATION PROTEIN PRODUCT FROM A MICROCROP AND COMPOSITIONS THEREOF
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to methods and systems for processing a high-concentration protein product from a microcrop (e.g., aquatic species, Lemna) and compositions thereof. According to some embodiments, the present disclosure relates to a method of processing a biomass comprising a microcrop (e.g., Lemna), where the method may include: blanching a first portion of the biomass in a blanching solution to form a wet protein concentrate; separating the first wet protein concentrate from a separated solution (e.g., using a screw press, using a vibratory screen); and drying the first wet protein concentrate to form at least one of a first protein concentrate flake and a first protein concentrate granule. In some embodiments at least one of the first protein concentrate flake and the first protein concentrate granule may comprise at least 45% protein and a Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCASS) value of at least 0.88. In some embodiments, the present disclosure relates to protein products and compositions derived from a microcrop (e.g., derived from Lemna).
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to apparatuses and methods for blanching (e.g., continuously) a microcrop (e.g., aquatic species, Lemna) and a high-concentration protein product derived therefrom. The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to an apparatus for blanching a microcrop (e.g., Lemna, Wolffia) where the apparatus may include: a conveyance mechanism operable to transport a biomass to a blanching tray; an applicator operable to dispense a blanching solution onto at least one surface of the biomass within the blanching tray; the blanching tray oriented to receive a volume of the blanching solution from the applicator; and a vibratory mechanism capable of vibrating the blanching tray to generate a net motion of the received volume of the blanching solution within blanching tray such that a wave of blanching solution is formed. In some embodiments, a vibratory mechanism may be operable to generate a motive force capable of directing a biomass from a first side of a blanching tray to a second side of the blanching tray. In some embodiments, an apparatus may be capable of processing a biomass at a product flow rate ratio of about 7:1.
A23N 12/04 - Machines for cleaning, blanching, drying or roasting fruits or vegetables, e.g. coffee, cocoa, nuts for washing or blanching for blanching
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to methods and systems for purifying proteins having a reduced oxalic acid content from aquatic species and compositions thereof.
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to methods and systems for purifying proteins, carbohydrate rich products, and polysaccharide products from a microcrop (e.g., photosynthetic aquatic species) and compositions thereof. For example, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments to methods and systems for extracting proteins, dry biocrude, carbohydrate-rich meal, and polysaccharide products from Lemna.
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to apparatuses, methods, and systems for cultivating a microcrop involving a floating coupling device. More specifically, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments to apparatuses and methods for cultivating Lemna for extracting proteins and/or carbohydrate rich products. In some embodiments, a bioreactor system for culturing a microcrop may comprise: a bioreactor container configured to contain the aquatic species in sufficient growth medium to permit normal growth of the microcrop, at least one coupling device comprising a star, and a propulsion mechanism configured to apply sufficient force to the at least one coupling device to cause motion thereof.
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to methods and systems for purifying proteins and carbohydrate rich products from photosynthetic aquatic species and compositions thereof. For example, one embodiment of the present disclosure relates to methods and systems for purifying proteins the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments to methods and systems for extracting proteins, dry biocrude, and carbohydrate-rich meal from Lemna. In some embodiments, a method of treating a biomass comprising a microcrop (e.g., Lemna) to produce a product comprising soluble microcrop protein may comprise: (a) lysing a first portion of the biomass to form a first portion of lysed biomass; (b) separating the first portion of lysed biomass to generate a first portion of a juice fraction and a first portion of a solid fraction; (c) separating the first portion of the juice fraction to generate a first portion of a first juice and a first portion of a first cake, wherein the first juice comprises a soluble microcrop protein; and/or (d) filtering the first portion of the first juice to generate a first portion of the product comprising soluble microcrop protein and a reject stream.
The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to methods and systems for deriving odor- and moisture-absorbing products from a microcrop (e.g., photosynthetic aquatic species). More specifically, the present disclosure relates, in some embodiments, to forming an absorptive product from Lemna, including an animal litter, an animal bedding, a diaper product, a spill clean-up product, and any combination thereof. A process for forming an absorbent product from a microcrop may comprise the actions of (a) lysing the microcrop to generate a lysed microcrop; (b) separating the lysed microcrop into a solid fraction and a juice fraction; (c) processing the solid fraction to generate an absorbent solid; and/or (d) forming, by a shaping unit, the absorbent solid into pellets or granules that may be incorporated into the absorptive product. An absorptive product may have odor- reducing properties that are due in part to chlorophyll (e.g., from a microcrop).
