The invention contains at least: microcapsules enclosing a liquid having one or more functional groups selected from ester groups, ketone groups, ether groups, and aliphatic hydroxyl groups; a leuco dye, a developer soluble in this liquid, and a liquid medium.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an ink composition for ballpoint pens, which can achieve a narrow handwriting width, does not form any small uneven part or does cause whisker-like bleeding at the boundary between a handwritten part and a paper, can prevent the occurrence of such a hollow defect that the ink does not exist in the vicinity of the center of a handwriting, and can form a clear handwriting. The ink composition has an ink viscosity of 200000 mPa·s or more at a shear rate of 0.019 s-1 and 5000 mPa·s or less at a shear rate of 10000 s-1 and a storage modulus of 10 Pa or more at an angular frequency of 0.019 rad/sec.
