Scene changes that are done pleasingly and without user input or control. Based on the number of speakers and changes in speakers, either to a different individual or movement by the same speaker, based on the locations of the speakers and based on the overlap of the current and intended scenes, a decision is made whether to perform a smooth transition or do a cut. It has been determined that the decision on cut versus smooth transition is preferably based on the location of the center of the intended new scene versus the boundaries of the current scene, a cut used if the center is outside the boundaries and a smooth transition if inside. If a smooth transition, an easing function, such as ease in ease out, is performed to change the scene. A preferred value for the smooth transition is to perform the transition over 80 frames.

PTP-BASED AUDIO CLOCK SYNCHRONIZATION AND ALIGNMENT FOR ACOUSTIC ECHO CANCELLATION IN A CONFERENCING SYSTEM WITH IP-CONNECTED CAMERAS, MICROPHONES AND SPEAKERS
PTP timestamps are obtained and correlated to internal audio time and timestamps. This allows Ethernet/IP audio devices to be closely aligned with local digital audio devices to allow improved AEC operations. By performing repetitive PTP timestamps based on local audio time, drift between PTP time and local audio time is determined and corrected. By performing the PTP to local audio time operations on each independent Ethernet network, the Ethernet/IP audio devices can be split between independent LANs. If some local digital audio inputs formed from analog inputs are not aligned with other local digital audio inputs, signals can be provided in analog format and audio samples of the signals can be correlated to local audio time. With correlations performed as necessary based on the various audio inputs in use, high quality AEC operations are performed.

SOUND MASKING SYSTEM WITH IMPROVED HIGH-FREQUENCY SPATIAL UNIFORMITY
Methods and apparatuses for addressing open space noise are disclosed. In one example, a system and method for masking open space noise includes outputting a noise masking sound from a plurality of balanced mode radiator loudspeakers distributed in a down-fire direction above an open space.
G10K 11/175 - Methods or devices for protecting against, or for damping, noise or other acoustic waves in general using interference effects; Masking sound
Methods and apparatuses for device location are described. In one example embodiment, an apparatus and method for determining a location of a mobile device is presented using a single narrowband radio system. In one implementation, Bluetooth is utilized. Using the single base operating with the narrowband radio, the location of the mobile device is found by applying both angle determination and distance determination. Using phased array antennas, the angle between receiver and base is determined. The distance is determined using a time-of-flight method based on phase comparison and phase lock loop techniques which can be applied in narrowband radio transceivers.

WIRELESS DENSITY-BASED ON-THE-FLY CODEC AND RADIO FREQUENCY LINK TYPE SELECTION
A method is disclosed for wireless density-based on-the-fly codec and radio frequency link type selection. The method includes storing a link quality value, and scanning a plurality of timeslots across a plurality of wireless carriers. The method also includes calculating, based on the scanning, an average radio frequency density level for a time period. Still yet, the method includes calculating a current density level based on the link quality value and the average radio frequency density level. Further, the method includes selecting, based on the current density level, a codec from a plurality of stored codecs. The selected codec is associated with a link type. Moreover, the method includes receiving a command to open a wireless link, and, in response to the command, opening the wireless link using the selected codec and the associated link type.
Methods and apparatuses for addressing open space noise are disclosed. In one example, a method for masking open space noise includes receiving a microphone output signal from a microphone, the microphone one of a plurality of microphones in an open space. The method includes detecting a presence of a noise source from the microphone output signal, and determining whether the noise source is capable of being masked with a noise masking sound. The method further includes increasing a volume of a noise masking sound output from a loudspeaker responsive to a determination that the noise source is capable of being masked, the loudspeaker located in a same geographic sub-unit of the open space as the microphone. The loudspeaker is one of a plurality of loudspeakers in the open space.
A headset for acoustic authentication of a user is provided, the headset comprising at least a first microphone, a second microphone, a controllable filter, and an authenticator. The first microphone is arranged to obtain a first input signal, arranged so that during use of the headset, a first acoustic signal received by the first microphone is influenced by the ear of the user. The second microphone is arranged to obtain a second input signal, arranged so that during use of the headset, a second acoustic signal is received by the second microphone, which second acoustic signal is correlated to the first acoustic signal. The controllable filter is configured to receive the first input signal and the second input signal and to determine at least one filter transfer function from the received first input signal and the second input signal. The authenticator is configured to determine a current user acoustic signature from the at least one filter transfer function and to compare the current user acoustic signature with a predefined user acoustic signature and to authenticate the user based on the comparison of the current user acoustic signature with the predefined user acoustic signature.
