Abstract

A retention apparatus, system and method is useful for attaching items, panels or other devices to a rail formed in longitudinal lengths and configured with a cross-sectional profile having multiple cooperating structures between the rail and a channel nut. Self-aligning, mating structures include a recess formed between a tooth and shelf on an interior first channel portion of the rail and a flange of the channel nut with concurrent mating of an anchor latch of the rail and a hook flange on the channel nut. Latching of the channel nut is accomplished initially by compression of the biasing element as the channel nut is inserted and then, upon release, biasing element-induced movement of the channel nut into a latching position. Grounding spikes on the biasing element form electrical contact points between the rail, the clamp and the frame of the solar panel or other device.

Abstract

A versatile clamp assembly that may be used for securing a device generally to an edge of a structure such as a raised portion of a standing seam of a metal roof. The assembly comprises a mounting body with an open loop having a slot for receiving the raised portion formed by the mounting body attaching the clamp assembly thereto. The assembly is configured with one or more pins that may be configured to be received in one or more push-pin openings formed in the mounting body, whereby the push-pin openings extend from a fastener base portion to a second arm portion. The assembly includes a fastener adapted to be received in a fastener opening formed adjacent the push-pin openings. The fastener is configured to secure and hold the clamp assembly to the standing seam by forcing the pins against the raised portion of the surface disposed in the slot.

Abstract

The invention relates to retention systems and, more particularly, for a modular retention apparatus, system and method for securing and leveling a photovoltaic (PV) panel and other objects on a wall, rooftop and other structure to secure and ground electrically. The photovoltaic panel retention assembly utilizes a solar cap with one or more integral elongated flange extensions of a predetermined dimension to provide spacing between PV solar panels and/or to stabilize the solar cap from tipping under installation forces and load in use. The flanges extend through a support bracket configured with a base portion to support adjacent PV panels in a PV panel array and a base platform portion. The solar cap comprises integral teeth on a surface of the solar cap spaced apart from the flanged projections to locate the teeth adjacent a frame of the PV panel for electrical grounding thereof.

Abstract

A clamp assembly that may be used for securing to a raised portion of a surface. The clamp assembly comprising a mounting body of a general block shape having a slot for receiving the raised portion formed in a bottom surface of the mounting body attaching the clamp assembly thereto. The clamp assembly is configured with one or more pins that may be formed in a substantially elongated cylindrical shape. The pins may be configured to be received in one or more push-pin holes formed in the mounting body, whereby the push-pin holes extend to the slot from a side surface of push-pin holes. The clamp assembly includes a fastening element adapted to be received in a fastener hole formed adjacent the push-pin holes in the side surface of the mounting body. The fastening element is configured to secure, attach and hold the clamp assembly to the standing seam by forcing the pins against the raised portion of the surface disposed in the slot.

Abstract

A retention apparatus, system and method for attaching a cross member with an anchor assembly to a latch assembly of a top block and clamp assembly secured to a wall, roof or other structure. The retention system is useful to prevent snow, ice and other objects from sliding off a roof. According to an exemplary embodiment, the retention apparatus and system may be secured to a standing seam on a metal roof to use an ice flag for retaining snow and ice between standing seams. The retention apparatus, system and method comprising a fastener securing a top block with a latch assembly to a clamp assembly attached to the standing seam of the metal roof. An cross member configured with an anchor assembly for operably connecting to the latch assembly of the top block by a ninety degree 90° straight-in approach to the latch assembly formed in the top block. One or more cross members may be joined together to form elongated sections using a connector inserted in one or more coupler channels of each of the cross members being joined. Additionally, the one or more coupler channels of the cross member are configured to secure by a tong projection of an ice flag at selected heights, whereby the ice flag is configured with tooth, register edge and projection on an upper portion of the ice flag to connect to a locking projection and a nub projection on the cross member.

Abstract

A clamp assembly (100), and a mounting assembly (150), that may be used for securing a device (160) (e.g. a solar panel, Roof Mounted Displays, Satellite Dishes, Conduit and Piping, Snow-Retention System, HVAC etc.) to a raised portion of a standing seam (103) of a metal roof, panel or tile (119) building surface. The clamp assembly (100) comprising a mounting body (101) of a general block shape having a slot (102) for receiving the standing seam (103) formed in a bottom surface (136) of the mounting body (101) and top surface (137) for securing thereon and attaching the device (160) thereto. The clamp assembly (100) is configured with one or more pins (105) that may be formed in a substantially elongated cylindrical shape. The pins (105) may be configured to be received in one or more push-pin holes (107) formed in the mounting body (101), whereby the push-pin holes (107) extend to the slot (102) from a side surface (138) of push-pin holes (107), which are formed substantially orthogonal relative to the slot (102). The clamp assembly (100) includes a fastening element (109) adapted to be received in a fastener hole (111) formed adjacent the push-pin holes (107) in the side surface (138) of the mounting body (101). The fastening element (109) is configured to secure, attach and hold the clamp assembly (100) to the standing seam (103) by forcing the pins (105) against the standing seam (103) disposed in the slot (102). The clamp assembly (100) further comprises a groove (115) adapted to receive and secure a ground wire (120), cable (121) or other item advantageous for grounding of electrical components and organization. The mounting assembly (100) includes the clamp assembly (100) and a panel fastening assembly (126) comprising a device fastening element (139) adapted to be received in said attachment hole (113) for securing the device (160), one or more one or more solar caps (127) adapted to be disposed on and around the device fastening element (139) so as to mount and secure the device (160) disposed between the solar caps (127) by tightening said device fastening element (139).
