Abstract

A rigid holding container has a flexible cover sheet extending over the holding area for sealing the contents. The container has a wide, flat perimeter lip which provides a firm base for the seal between the cover sheet and the container. A breaching bubble is formed in the seal, under the cover and over the perimeter lip. The consumer breaches the bubble by pressing the bubble against the lip between the thumb and forefinger. The pressure compresses the air in the bubble causing the bubble to expand laterally. The expanding bubble breaches along the perimeter of the lip, producing a peel flap of flexible cover material. The consumer pulls the peel flap while holding the rigid container down, to remove the cover sheet.

Abstract

An easy to open package is described. The package includes a sealed compartment having a tab region. The tab region is formed by connecting together a first panel to a second panel. Within the tab region, however, are a pair of opposing peel tabs. The peel tabs comprise an area within the tab region where the first panel is not sealed to the second panel. The peel tabs extend from the tab region to an edge of the package. In this manner, a user can peel apart the peel tabs to separate the first panel from the second panel and open the sealed compartment. In one embodiment, at least one of the peel tabs can be coated with a material to prevent the first panel from sealing to the second panel.

Abstract

A package (10) is made from a polymer film that includes a breachable bubble (28,30). The package can be flexible. The breachable bubble is for opening the package. In particular, the bubble, once breached, causes two opposing layers (12,14) to separate. The separated layers form peelable portions that can be peeled apart in order to access the contents of the package.

Abstract

A breachable access structure for providing access to contents stored in a storage package is disclosed. The access structure includes two opposing laminae and a breachable edge. A breachable bubble is formed between the opposing laminae and has breaching fluid located within the breachable bubble. The breachable bubble is expandable under applied pressure towards the edge of the access structure, the expansion separating the opposing laminae until the breachable bubble creates a breach through the edge. The breachable bubble is adapted to cause an exit blast of the breaching fluid when the breaching fluid is pressured out of the breachable bubble. The exit blast ejects debris from a zone adjacent the breachable access structure.

Abstract

Secure product container (10) has opposed closure shells (10P,10A) forming product chamber (IOC). The shells may be separated into an open accessible state (see FIG. IA), in which the closure shells are uncaptured and product (1OG) is accessible. The closure shells may be placed together in a closed state along closure interface (12C) (see FIG. IB), in which the closure shells are captured to enclose the product. A closure capture between the closure shells holds the shells in the closed state. Closure capture (26) has a secured condition (see FIG. 2B) in which the closure shells are captured together in the closed state, and a released condition (see FIG. 2A) in which the closure shells may be uncaptured in the accessible state. Capture release device (12) on active shell (10A) is pressure responsive for releasing the closure capture from the secured condition into the released condition when pressurized. When depressurized, the release device permits the closure capture to be secure from the released condition into the secured condition. Pressure system (14) (shown in FIG. IA) is in fluid communication with the release device for pressurizing the release device to release the closure capture and uncapture the closure shells. The pressure system also depressurizes the release device to permit securing the closure capture and capturing the closure shells.

Abstract

Apparatus 10 has breachable flow conduit 12 for discharging stored fluid 12F contained in storage chamber 10C out to the ambient. Chamber access region 10R is positioned proximate perimeter 10P of the apparatus. The breachable flow conduit is within the access region, and has an inner end 12C proximate the storage chamber and an outer end 12P proximate the perimeter of the apparatus. The flow conduit has outer pressed seal 14P between the outer end of the flow conduit and the perimeter of the apparatus. The flow conduit also has inner pressed seal 14C between the inner end of the flow conduit and the edge of the storage chamber. The flow conduit expands towards the perimeter of the apparatus under external pressure, typically applied by the consumer. The pressure causes the flow conduit to breach at the perimeter of the apparatus. The flow conduit also expands towards the storage chamber. The pressure causes the flow conduit to breach at the edge of the storage chamber. Breached flow conduit 13B establishes fluid communication between the storage chamber and the ambient for discharge of the stored fluid.

Abstract

Bubble device 10 permits a user to directionally disperse a product under compressive pressure toward zone of concern 10Z. Opposed webs 10S and 10C are pressed together to form sealed perimeter 1OP around a central enclosure, forming dispersing bubble 12. The perimeter has a breaching seal 10B for product dispersion and a non-breaching seal 10N along the remaining perimeter. Product 1OP for dispersion and compressible product transport fluid 12F are contained within the dispersing bubble. The transport fluid is compressed and the force of compression causes the bubble (12) to bulge toward the frangible breaching seal (see FIG. 1C). The web separation occurs inside the dispersing bubble, forcing an edge breach 12E in the breaching seal. The compressed transport fluid rapidly escapes as a released blast through the edge breach. The stored energy of compression within the bubble (12) is released as kinetic energy of the escaping transport fluid. Opposed peel tabs 12S and 12C are formed by the enclosure material of the opposed webs proximate the edge breach as the bubble breaches. The opposed webs 10S and 10C may be completely separated forming application pads (see FIG. 1E) for applying any product residue 12R remaining on the webs after the dispersion.

Abstract

Secure product container 10 has opposed closure shells 10P and 10A forming product chamber 10C. The shells may be separated into an open accessible state (see FIG. 1A), in which the closure shells are uncaptured and product 10G is accessible. The closure shells may be placed together in a closed state along closure interface 12C (see FIG. 1B), in which the closure shells are captured to enclose the product. A closure capture between the closure shells holds the shells in the closed state. Closure capture 26 has a secured condition (see FIG. 2B) in which the closure shells are captured together in the closed state, and a released condition (see FIG. 2A) in which the closure shells may be uncaptured in the accessible state. Capture release device 12 on active shell 10A is pressure responsive for releasing the closure capture from the secured condition into the released condition when pressurized. When depressurized, the release device permits the closure capture to be secure from the released condition into the secured condition. Pressure system 14 (shown in FIG. 1A) is in fluid communication with the release device for pressurizing the release device to release the closure capture and uncapture the closure shells. The pressure system also depressurizes the release device to permit securing the closure capture and capturing the closure shells.

Abstract

Product container (10) has base (10B) carrying collapse voids (12A) and (12B) and (12C). The collapse voids are located in the perimeter of the container, and intrude into the container defining open span faces (14A) and (14B) and (14C). Tear-off skin wrap (10W) encloses the container and extends unsupported across the span faces of the collapse voids. A stress site proximate each collapse void, engage the material of the skin wrap spanning the span faces, causing initial tensile failure of the spanning material. Cover (10C) may be hinge connected to the base at side points (10L) and (10R). The cover pivots over the base forming a closure or protective jacket having three rigid dimensions. Product (10P) is contained within the closure. Product insert (10I) is mounted on the base and may be custom shaped for holding the product during shipment and later during consumer storage.

Abstract

Merchandise container (10) has location specific breaching at breaching focus (12F) when shaped breaching bubble (12S) is in compression. Base lamina (10B) and opposed cover lamina (10C) are selectively pressed together into a double convex receptacle (see FIG. 1B). Product chamber (12P) and the breaching bubble are included within a perimeter seal (14P). Inner seal (141) extends across the container, isolating the product chamber from the breaching bubble. Bubble incursion zone (12Z) shifts the perimeter seal inward toward the breaching bubble. Breaching focus (12F) initiates the breach at the inward most point or location of the incursion zone. Breaching flanks (14K) adjacent to the breaching focus form the breaching edge. The breaching bubble is compressed under external pressure applied by the end user, indicated by arrows (12C) and (12B) in FIG. 1B, causing the opposed laminae to separate. Opposed peel flaps, cover peel flap (14C) and base peel flap (14B) (see FIG. 1C) are provided by the separated opposed laminae proximate the incursion zone after the location specific breach at the breaching focus.

Abstract

Breachable product container (10) is formed by first lamina (10B) and opposed second lamina (10C) selectively pressed together. Perimeter seal (10S) extends around the perimeter of the container. Product chamber (12P) and inflatable breaching bubble (12) are between the selectively pressed opposed laminae, within the perimeter seal. Product (16) is contained within the product chamber. Inner divider (14D) extends between the product chamber and the breaching bubble. Transfer passage (14) through the inner divider permits inflation of the breaching bubble in response to moderate pressure applied to the product chamber during an extended inflation period. Breaching edge (12E) forms part of the perimeter seal around the breaching bubble. The breaching edge provides an edge breach by separating the opposed laminae along the breaching edge in response to substantial pressure applied to the breaching bubble during a brief breaching period. Opposed peel flaps (12C and 12B) are formed along the edge breach by the separated opposed laminae. The end-user pulls the peel flaps apart causing detachment of the inner divider for permitting access to the product chamber.

Abstract

Flexible cover lamina 12C is pressed into selective engagement base lamina 12B defining a series of sequential storage units 10X and 10Y and 10Z with frangible seal 14F (no hatching) and destruct seal 14D (double hatching). Sealed medication chamber 16M is proximate the destruct seal within each storage unit. Chamber access region 16R is proximate the frangible seal within each storage unit. Breachable bubble 16B is positioned within each chamber access region and expands under applied pressure towards the frangible seal of the storage unit (see FIG. 1A and 1B). The expansion separates the opposed laminae. Flexible peel flap 14C is formed by the flexible cover lamina along the breached frangible seal as the bubble breaches. The flap is peeled away from the base lamina by the user, parting the chamber seal to open the medication chamber.

Abstract

Breaching access structure 10S provides easy access to sealed interior 10I containing contents 10C. Access region 12A proximate edge 12E of package 10, provides entrance into the interior and access to the contents. Band seal 14 formed by upper lamina 14U and lower lamina 14L extends along the access region, enclosing breaching bubble 16. The band seal has inner seal portion 14I between the bubble and the interior, and outer seal portion 14O between the bubble and edge 12E of the package. The bubble is expandable to open the package in response to bursting detonator 18. The detonator is burst by external pressure applied by a user. Opposed pair of peel flaps, upper flap 16U and lower flap 16L, are formed by the opposed laminae of the outer seal along the edge breach as the bubble breaches. These small initial flaps are grasped by the user and manually peeled apart to initiate opening the band seal.
