This invention relates to a grinding appliance for grinding of button drill bits which comprise a drilling head with a plurality of buttons, and a method for manufacturing such a grinding appliance. The grinding appliance comprises a first element provided with an abrasive facing comprising diamonds as the abrasive medium and adapted to grinding a button to an intended end profile shape, and a second element adapted to grinding the drilling head. The invention pertains to a neck adaptor at a drilling device for rock drilling. The neck adaptor is cylindrical and comprises an envelope surface, a front end surface, a central axial passage which orifices at the front end surface, and a radial side-flushing hole which extends from the central axial passage and orifices in the envelope surface. The side-flushing hole has an oblong cross-section which extends along a mid axis from a front end of the cross-section of the side-flushing hole to a rear end of the cross-section of the side-flushing hole. The mid axis is substantially parallel with the central axial passage. The front end faces the front end surface of the neck adaptor. The cross- section of the side-flushing hole is wing profile shaped. The cross-section is divided up into two cross-section parts perpendicular against the mid axis, so that each of the two cross-section parts has substantially the same length of the mid axis. The two cross- section parts comprise a front cross-section part comprising the front end of the cross- section of the side-flushing hole, which front cross-section part has a front cross-section area, and a rear cross-section part comprising the rear end of the cross-section of the side-flushing hole, which rear cross-section part has a rear cross-section area. The front cross-section area is formed to be smaller than the rear cross-section area.
The invention concerns a method for grinding button drill bits, in which an abrasive wheel is used to restore the original form of a button in a button drill-bit. The grinding is carried out according to the invention at a temperature in the grinding region of approximately 250-700 °C. The invention concerns also an arrangement for the grinding of button drill-bits in which an abrasive wheel is used to restore the original form of a button in the button drill-bit, which abrasive wheel is provided with upright side flanges and an intermediate groove, where the arrangement comprises an arrangement for directing a stream of a cooling agent onto the side flanges and groove of the abrasive wheel. The invention concerns also an abrasive wheel that comprises diamonds with a mean particle size of 200 &mgr;m or greater, embedded in a matrix.
