Abstract

The present invention is a method of fabricating a flexible pressure sensor array and a sensor or sensor array. A sensor array can provide a pressure map in addition to a magnitude of pressure; hence providing tactile information of the pressure exerted on the sensor array. More particularly, the invention relates to the combination of a foam, preferably an rGO foam, and a PCB, where the PCB is preferably at the bottom, and rGO foam attaches to it. The PCB can be a typical PCB or flexible PCB. This new combination prevents resistance change of the electrodes after applying pressure. Importantly, the electrodes are all on the PCB and so all connectivity is only on one side of the sensor, providing ease of use and eliminating the electrical connection (or electrodes) exposed to physical contact with the object or load, over traditional 2-sided sensors.

Abstract

A method of mercury-free photochemical micro-/nano-encapsulation of an active material is a process for obtaining micro-/nano-capsules by means of curing by UV LED radiation at ambient or even cold temperatures. A stirrer photo-reactor made from glass or transparent plastics can be used but mixed flow reactor could be also employed. Appropriate mixing is sufficient to expose all droplets, which contain an active material surrounded by curable-shell materials in the emulsion to the LED radiation. Using the optimum light intensities and reactions' times is critical for encapsulating the active material with a high efficiency and producing a high quality micro-/nano- capsules, Solar monochromator device can also be used as long as it generate the same radiation with a narrow/single wavelengths as the LED device. Light emitted diode (LED) is a mercury-free UV radiation source with a long operating life time and an instant ON-Off. it has a high efficiency, a very low cooling requirements and cost-efficient in photochemical encapsulation. It reduces the time of microencapsulation from 6 hours to a less than 5 minutes. It has a significant decrease in manufacturing cost, waste-water, unconverted monomers, and leftover active phase change material (PCM) compared to other methods. Conversion of more than 90% of monomers can be achieved, and encapsulation efficiency can reach 100% at optimum conditions. This is in addition to the ability of this invented technology for encapsulate volatile and heat sensitive active materials at ambient as well as low temperatures. Normal glass or transparent plastics can be used as a reactor material. Only the matched useful wavelength radiation is emitted by LED without having other wavelengths which might have a bad impact on the encapsulation process.

Abstract

The subject invention pertains to the application of GI slow-wave network analysis to profile GI side effects for applications including high-throughput drug screening on a microelectrode array (MEA) platform. Slow-wave data can be obtained, evaluated, interpreted, and used to build a comprehensive database based on the effects of specified drugs on GI pacemaker activity for predictive and classification purposes. In one example, pacemaker potentials were recorded extracellularly on a 60-channel MEA system using full-thickness GI segments isolated from Suncus murinus. Basic slow-wave parameters, including frequency, amplitude, slope, period, and power partitions, were derived. Signal regularity was also evaluated using detrended fluctuation analysis and sample entropy analysis. Signal propagation, velocity, and activation time patterns were also constructed and compared before and after treatment with dopamine (0.1-100 μM).

Using the optimum light intensities and reactions' times is critical for encapsulating the active material with a high efficiency and producing a high quality micro-/nano-capsules, Solar monochromator device can also be used as long as it generate the same radiation with a narrow/single wavelengths as the LED device. Light emitted diode (LED) is a mercury-free UV radiation source with a long operating life time and an instant ON-Off, it has a high efficiency, a very low cooling requirements and cost-efficient in photochemical encapsulation.

Abstract

Optimising water use in a way that avoids over watering or at least avoids or minimises water mobilisation may be useful. An irrigation control system is described, the system including a sound emitter arranged to emit sound towards a ground surface; a sound receiver arranged to receive sound emitted by the sound emitter and reflected or scattered from the ground surface. A controller then controls one or more irrigation parameters of an irrigator based at least in part on sound received by the sound receiver. In a further aspect, the irrigation control system senses the onset of surface water pooling or free water flow on the ground surface and the controller then controls irrigation parameters to reduce application of water in response to the sensed features. Related methods of controlling irrigation systems are also described.

Abstract

The disclosure provides a wireless power transfer circuit that uses two coupled resonators provided in one of a primary or secondary wireless power transfer magnetic structure. The coupled resonators work together to compensate for changes in relative position. Each resonator has a planar coil, and the resonators are coupled with each other by magnetic coupling of the planar coils, which are located adjacent each other in either a side by side relationship or a partially overlapping relationship. The circuit is tolerant to misalignment of the magnetic structures (often referred to as pads) which magnetically couple with each other to enable the transfer of power. The changes in inductances as well as main, cross, and inter coupling between the coils of the primary and pick-up pads or structures show that a constant power transfer or charging profile can be maintained over a large operating region.
