Abstract

Reinforced surgical table mattresses or pads and methods of manufacture are disclosed. A layer of polymeric foam can be inserted into a shell formed from one or more sheets of flexible polymeric film material laminated to a fabric and welded together to create a water-proof shell. At least one layer of hotmelt glue film can be positioned inside the shell between the bottom side of the foam and the fabric of the shell. Heat can be applied to the outside of the shell at a temperature above the melting point of the hotmelt glue film and below that of the shell material, melting the glue film and bonding the fabric of the shell to an adjacent layer of material when cooled.

Abstract

A heated underbody support comprising a heated mattress, heated mattress overlay or heated pad. The heated underbody support includes a heater assembly having an upper surface upon which a user directly or indirectly lays when the heated underbody support is in use. The heater assembly includes a flexible heating element including a sheet of conductive fabric having a substantially uniform Watt density. The heated underbody support also includes a layer of compressible material adapted to conform to the user's body when under pressure from the user resting upon the support. When the user lays upon the upper surface of the support, the heating element is adapted to adjust such that the temperature of the contact portion is less than the temperature of the non-contact portion of the support.

Abstract

A multi-zone electric heating blanket. The blanket may be shaped to cover the outstretched arms or other body parts of a patient. The blanket includes first and second body part portions and a connecting bridge. The interconnection via the bridge leaves an open gap between the first and second body part portions for unblocked access to the patient. A power controller may supply power to heating elements in both body part portions based on a temperature sensor in one of the body part portions.

Abstract

A blanket for warming patients during surgery and other medical procedures. The blanket includes one or more temperature sensors and a shut-off timer to prevent prolonged exposure of excessive heat to a patient. Embodiments of the present invention provide a safety feature that cuts power to a heating blanket after a certain period of time has elapsed, irrespective of the feedback provided by a temperature sensor concerning the blanket temperature. That period of time is longer than it takes for the blanket to reach its threshold temperature but shorter than it takes to cause thermal burn injury.

Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide a heating blanket that can be secured to the head and at least one arm of a patient while leaving the patient's chest and abdomen remain substantially exposed. The head and arms tend to be excellent heat exchange surfaces. These surfaces can also be relatively large for heating purposes. Thus, many embodiments are able to warm patients effectively while leaving the chest and abdomen exposed and unobstructed, thereby providing enhanced access for caregivers in surgery and/or observation.

Abstract

A flexible heating subassembly, that may be incorporated in a heating blanket or any other type of flexible heater, includes a flexible sheet-like heating element, or heater, to which first and second conductive bus bars are coupled, each with a respective first and second row of conductive stitching. A first electrically insulating member is interposed between the first bus bar and the heater and is secured therebetween by the first row of stitching, and a second electrically insulating member is interposed between the second bus bar and the heater and is secured therebetween by the second row of stitching. The first and second insulating members prevent direct electrical contact between respective first and second bus bars and the heater.
