Abstract

A lever device for actuating the parking brake of a motor-vehicle includes a lever structure with a base portion tiltably mounted on a supporting bracket. The mounting includes a first transverse axis, a second transverse axis, a third transverse axis and a fourth transverse axis. When the lever structure is in its completely lowered position, the third and fourth transverse axes are each lower than that of the first and second transverse axes, respectively. In the lowered position, two theoretical planes containing the first and third transverse axes and the second and fourth transverse axes, respectively, intersect along a theoretical axis of instantaneous rotation of the lever structure, which is located above the first and second transverse axes. When the lever structure moves to its completely raised position, the lever arm and its end handgrip displace according to a substantially elliptical, and substantially vertically oriented, path, respectively.

Abstract

A diesel engine system comprises a particulate filter interposed in an exhaust line and a plurality of fuel injectors associated with an engine. When a quantity of particulate accumulated within said filter is estimated to be greater than a threshold, a control mode of the injectors is activated causing an automatic regeneration of the filter, by increasing a temperature of exhaust gases fed to the filter sufficient for burning the particulate within the filter. A statistical model is applied which estimates the quantity of particulate accumulated in the filter per time unit The estimation of the particulate accumulated in the filter is corrected after each regeneration of the filter, on a basis of a comparison between the real variation of said temperature during the regeneration as detected by a sensor and a stored reference variation of said temperature previously detected empirically during a regeneration with the filter being empty.

Abstract

A fuel tank for a motor-vehicle includes a vent conduit connected to a canister arranged outside of the tank for absorbing fuel vapors. The vent conduit has a portion arranged inside the tank with an intermediate portion located at a lowermost position, which creates a zone in which liquid fuel tends to stagnate, which is originated from condensation of the vapors inside the vent conduit. The tank further includes a conduit for draining the liquid fuel originated from condensation of vapors present within the vent conduit. The draining conduit extends downwardly starting from the zone and ends with a closed end portion acting as accumulator and evaporator of the fuel. The closed end portion is arranged at an area which can reach a temperature sufficient for causing evaporation of the condensed fuel and elimination thereof by a flow in an opposite direction through the draining conduit and then through the vent conduit towards the canister.

Abstract

A cylinder head for an internal-combustion engine includes, for each cylinder of the engine, at least one intake duct extending from an inlet located at a lateral face of the head down to an outlet cylindrical mouth and an intake valve associated with each intake duct. The surface of the intake duct has a longitudinal projection for deflecting the flow of air that flows through the intake duct. The projection is configured to provide a deflection of the air flow towards the two sides of the valve stem, so as to substantially reduce the quantity of air that hits the valve stem directly. The projection extends down to the outlet cylindrical mouth, so as to hinder a flow of air through an angular sector of the cross-sectional area of the outlet mouth which angular sector faces towards the lateral face of the cylinder head.

Abstract

An electrical power-steering system for motor-vehicles includes a first pinion and a second pinion meshing with two portions of a rack member which controls the steering angle of the wheels. The two pinions are driven by respective electric motors which are in turn controlled by an electronic control unit. The two portions of the rack member are constituted by two separate elements connected to each other by a connection member interposed therebetween, such that the first and second portions of the rack member behave like a single rigid element when they are driven with identical displacements in a steering maneuver, whereas the connection member allows for a relative movement in the longitudinal direction of the first and second portions of the rack member, with a resulting lengthening or shortening of the rack member, when the first and second portions of the rack member are driven with differentiated displacements in an operative mode for adjustment of the convergence angle of the wheels.

Abstract

A method for controlling four semi-active suspensions of a vehicle comprising the steps of: determining, for each semi-active suspension, a first and a second signal representative of the acceleration and speed of the sprung mass; determining, for a pair of semi-active suspensions arranged on one side of the vehicle a third and a four signal representative of the acceleration and pitch speed; calculating for each semi-active suspension, a first damping coefficient as a function of the difference between the first and second signal squared; calculating for each semi-active suspension, a second damping coefficient as a function of the difference between the third and the four signal squared; for each semi-active suspension, comparing the first and the second damping coefficient for determining the higher coefficient; applying to each force generator device, an electronic control signal indicative of the respective high damping coefficient.

Abstract

A motor-vehicle door with frameless window includes a door structure, a window pane, slidably mounted on the door structure between a lowered position and a raised position, and a regulating device, for controlling movement of the pane. Connected to the pane is a slider member, which engages a respective guide element mounted on the door structure. Operatively set between the slider member and the pane is an elastically deformable member. In its undeformed condition, the deformable member tends to keep the pane in an out-of-tolerance position, more raised and/or set further back with respect to its correct position of assembly on the slider member. Clamping means are provided for adjusting the position of the pane on the slider member so as to compensate, during assembly, the deviation from the nominal design position due to the tolerances of the processes of production of the bodies and the windows.

Abstract

An internal-combustion engine for motor vehicles, for example a petrol-fuelled engine or a gas-fuelled engine, is provided with an electronically controlled hydraulic system for variable actuation of the intake valves. The system of variable actuation of the intake valves is governed by an electronic control unit that is programmed for performing at least once, at the start of the life of the engine, an activity of supervision of the functions of self-adaptive control of the air-fuel ratio. The supervision activity is based upon identification of a constant ratio between a delta in the value of the crank angle used by the electronic control unit and the error in the estimation of the air-fuel ratio by the electronic control unit when the system of actuation of the intake valves operates in late-opening mode. The activity of supervision envisages that the electronic control unit detects and stores the variation in the value of the crank angle (crank-angle delta) that must be applied to the value of the crank angle used by the electronic control unit in order to reach an estimated value of the mass of air taken in that basically coincides with the real value.

Abstract

A method and apparatus to control the pickup on an uphill slope of an automotive vehicle provided with an automatic or robotized gearbox provide the definition of a control strategy of the gear box operation, also according to the gradient of the uphill slope, which is preferably calculated based on a longitudinal acceleration value of the automotive vehicle, and based on the altitude at which the automotive vehicle can be found, which is preferably calculated based on a detected atmospheric pressure value. In this way, it is also possible to consider the reduction in the engine torque due to the reduction in the air density with altitude.
