The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a cartridge for use with an aerosol delivery device. In some implementations, the aerosol delivery device may comprise a holder, and a cartridge comprising an outer housing, a heat portion comprising a heat source, and a substrate portion comprising a substrate material including an aerosol precursor composition. THERMAL ENERGY ABSORBERS FOR TOBACCO HEATING PRODUCTS
The present disclosure provides thermal energy absorbers for use in smoking articles. In an example embodiment, the smoking article may comprise an outer wrap circumscribing at least a portion of the smoking article, wherein the smoking article is defined by an upstream lighting end and a downstream mouth end, a carbon heat source positioned proximate the lighting end, a tobacco material positioned downstream of the carbon heat source and spatially separated from the mouth end of the smoking article, and a thermal energy absorber at least partially positioned between the tobacco material and the carbon heat source.
The invention provides an article, such as an aerosol-generating smoking article that does not combust tobacco, that includes a tobacco rod and a filter element connected to the tobacco rod, the filter element having an end proximal to the tobacco rod and an end distal from the tobacco rod, wherein the filter element includes a first section of filter material and a second section of filter material, and further includes a smoke-altering flavorant.
The present disclosure is directed to a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder comprises a main body, an inner sleeve configured to move relative to the main body, and an actuating element configured to slide the inner sleeve to and from a retracted position, in which an outer surface of the inner sleeve is not visible, and a use position, in which the inner sleeve protects an inserted cartridge. In another implementation, the holder comprises a main body, a receiving member located within the main body, and a spring-loaded latch mechanism. The present disclosure is directed to a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge having an ignitable heat source. The device includes a holder defining a receiving chamber configured to receive the cartridge, the cartridge comprising an ignitable heat source and a substrate portion comprising an aerosol precursor composition. A biodegradable bi-component fiber may include a polyhydroxyalkanoate and/or polylactic acid with cellulose acetate and/or plasticized cellulose acetate for use in a filter material configured for use in a filter of a smoking article. The bi-component fiber may have a sheath-core construction where one component of the bi-component forms the core, and the other component forms the sheath of each fiber. A filter made in accordance with this design may also include non-biodegradable material.

The present invention provides a method for modulating (e.g. decreasing) the nicotine content of a plant (e.g. a tobacco plant) or part thereof, or tobacco plant cell, the method comprising modifying said plant or cell to modulate the expression or activity of at least one Nic3 gene. The present invention also provides for the use of the Nic3 locus for modulating the alkaloid content of a plant, as well as tobacco cells, plants, plant propagation materials, harvested leaves, processed tobaccos, or delivery systems obtainable in accordance with the invention.

Methods and compositions are provided for expressing an endolysin in a bacterium or in a tobacco plant or plant part. Expression of the endolysin can reduce the total bacterial load on the plant and in tobacco products produced from the plant. In an example embodiment, the smoking article may comprise an outer wrap (102) circumscribing at least a portion of the smoking article (100), wherein the smoking article is defined by an upstream lighting end (104) and a downstream mouth end (106), a carbon heat source (108) positioned proximate the lighting end, a tobacco material (110) positioned downstream of the carbon heat source and spatially separated from the mouth end of the smoking article, and a thermal energy absorber (112) at least partially positioned between the tobacco material and the carbon heat source.
