An apparatus for the machining of optical workpieces of materials of non-brittle hardness, particularly of plastics material spectacles lenses, has a holder, which is operatively connected with an actuator for reciprocating movement, and a support, which is fixable to the holder and to which a cutting tip of monocrystalline diamond, which has an arcuate cutting edge, is fastened. In order to be able to use the cutting edge over its curve length to avoid of premature wear in the rotary machining, provision is made for a positioning device, by which the support is fixable in at least two different relative positions with respect to the holder to dispose substantially different circumferential sections of the cutting edge for the rotary machining.

Apparatus and method for generating an optical surface on a workpiece
An apparatus (10) for generating a surface (S) on a workpiece (W) is proposed, which comprises a workpiece chuck (17) having a longitudinal axis (L), a spindle (18) for rotating a fly cutting tool (20) having a tool tip (48), and a moving device for moving the spindle generally transverse to the axis (L). The spindle further has a rotary encoder (42) for detecting an angle of tool rotation (γ), wherein the chuck is operatively connected with a fast workpiece servo (50) capable of moving it over short distances at high velocities. The servo is controllable taking into account the given angle of tool rotation so that the workpiece can be advanced toward and retracted from the tool in a defined manner while being cut by the tool tip. The limited geometry of the tool can thus be modified by moving the workpiece relative to the tool tip.
A fast tool arrangement, in particular for lathes for machining optical workpieces, has a carriage, which for linear reciprocating movements is guided in a housing on bearing elements stationary in relation to the housing, and which at its outer end carries a holder for a tool or workpiece and at its inner end is actively connected with a moving coil drive. A polishing disk for a tool for the fine machining of optically active surfaces on spectacle lenses in particular is disclosed, which comprises a support body, to which a foam layer is attached, wherein a polishing film bears against the foam layer. The polishing film is provided with at least one opening in a central region. During machining, the opening ensures pressure equalization and makes liquid polishing agent available from inside the foam layer, as a result of which better rinsing and cooling of otherwise disadvantaged regions of the polishing disk is achieved. As a result, a polishing disk of simple and cost-effective design is proposed, which is much more durable than the prior art while achieving high surface qualities.
