Abstract

Post-treatment method and/or fine patterning method of effect pigment-containing or metal-containing particle-containing objects, for example car body parts or cosmetic containers or layers, for example paint layers or printing ink layers, by means of energy input (e.g. heat input, preferably by laser light), whereby the hiding power of metal-containing pigment platelets or metal-containing particles is permanently reduced by their change in shape factor. In the treated surfaces, this change in shape factor causes a permanent local increase in transparency, translucency or transmission for electromagnetic waves, in particular radar wave, radio wave and/or light wave transmission, and/or a local reduction in reflectance, for example for the production of painted radomes. The process differs from conventional laser marking in that the transmission for electromagnetic waves of normally reflective metal-effect pigment surfaces or metal-containing particles is permanently increased by the change in shape factor caused by the laser beam, whereby pigment platelets or particles are changed either by direct melting and/or by triggering an auxiliary chemical reaction in such a way that their metal core is at least partially melted, possibly chemically transformed and/or destroyed.

Abstract

The invention relates to a post treatment method and/or fine pattern method for objects containing effect pigments or metallic particles, such as car body parts or cosmetic containers or coatings, such as varnish coatings or printing ink coatings, by means of energy input (heat input, for example, preferably using laser light), wherein the covering power of pigment platelets or particles containing metal is permanently reduced by the form factor alteration thereof. Abstract

The invention relates to a method for modifying the surface of powdery particles by means of silane compounds. According to the invention, in order to perform the method economically, said method comprises the steps of introducing the powdery particles into a reaction mixture comprising a silane component and a liquid alcoholic component, wherein the liquid alcoholic component comprises an alcoholic reactive component, and then chemically reacting the silane component and the alcoholic reactive component in the presence of the particles, wherein reaction products formed during the reaction are deposited on the surface of the particles, a primary particle preparation thus being formed.

Abstract

The invention relates to powders of coated PVD metal effect pigment, to highly concentrated slurries of coated PVD metal effect pigment and their use in powder coatings and master batches. The inventive powder of coated PVD metal effect pigments is characterized by very good redispersibility and is in particular outstandingly suitable for the production of highly concentrated slurries. It is also extremely free-flowing, substantially agglomerate-free and leads to coatings having an excellent metallic lustre.

Abstract

The invention relates to semitransparent pearlescent pigments, to methods for producing same, and to the use of such pearlescent pigments, wherein the pearlescent pigments are monolithically constructed substrate platelets composed of a metal oxide having an average thickness of 1 to 40 nm and a form factor, expressed by the ratio of the average size to the average thickness, of at least 80, which are encased by at least one substantially transparent coating A composed of at least one low-refractive-index metal oxide and/or metal oxide hydrate, which has a refractive index of less than 1.8, and comprise at least one interference layer in the form of a coating B composed of at least one high-refractive-index metal oxide, which has a refractive index of at least 1.8.
