Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing a leather substitute, comprising the steps: treating wool in a mixture which comprises calcium chloride, water, ethanol and a reducing agent, and which has a pH of between 6 and 8, wherein at least one portion of the keratin of the wool is dissolved; regenerating the keratin by adding an excess of water; and shaping the keratin into the desired shape.
