The present invention relates to a flame-proof and explosion-proof surface combustion gas burner (1). This burner is notable in that it comprises a burner body (2) pierced with a series of orifices (21), each of which is extended by a rim (22), these orifices (21) being arranged in several rows (24) of aligned orifices (21), and a gas distributor (5) which comprises a distributor body (50) equipped with a plurality of longitudinal gas-distribution branches (52), each branch (52) being pierced with a line of orifices which are bordered by a rim (59).
