Abstract

The presently disclosed subject-matter relates to an ophthalmic lens for affecting the progression of myopia in an eye of an individual having a certain prescription (Rx). In one aspect, the presently disclosed subject-matter refers to a customization of the optical property profile based on the age and conventional prescription of an individual. According to another aspect of the presently disclosed subject-matter, a process in which the customization is performed inter alia by correlating between the conventional prescription and the peripheral optical property at the temporal and/or nasal retina is proposed. According to another aspect of the presently disclosed subject-matter an asymmetric myopia control lens with cylinder customization is provided.

Abstract

This method of laminating a functional film onto an optical article includes: thermoforming the functional film so as to provide the functional film with a predetermined target curvature based on a curvature of a face of the optical article on which the functional film is to be applied; applying the functional film onto that face of the optical article; pressing the functional film against that face of the optical article so as to adhere the functional film to that face of the optical article. This method further includes heating the functional film at at least one predetermined temperature after the applying, so that the functional film conforms to the curvature of that face of the optical article.

Abstract

A method of evaluating a vision of a subject including: causing a display to define a first display portion and a second display portion; causing the display to emit, from the first display portion, light having a first wavelength value and to emit, from the second display portion, light having a second wavelength value; causing the display to present, on the first display portion, one or more first optotypes and to present, on the second display portion, one or more second optotypes; varying with time the second wavelength value within a predefined wavelengths range; obtaining an indication concerning a subject's perception of the one or more second optotypes as compared to a subject's perception of the one or more first optotypes; and determining a vision disorder of the subject based on the second wavelength value for which the indication has been obtained.

Abstract

A machine and method for obtaining a curved surface of a film structure that comprises a carrier layer and a functional film (212). The machine comprises an annular support member having a supporting face adapted for supporting the film structure, and an opening (10) that is covered by the film structure when said film structure is supported by the annular support member; a clamping system configured to clamp the annular support member and the film structure when supported by the annular support member; and a forming system configured to apply pressure, and preferably temperature, on the film structure so as to curve said film structure in or through the opening (10) of the annular support member. The opening (10) of the annular support member has a contour that is non-circular so that the obtained curvature of the functional film (212) corresponds to a target curvature.

Abstract

This method of laminating a functional film onto an optical article comprises: thermoforming (302) the functional film so as to provide the functional film with a predetermined target curvature based on a curvature of a face of the optical article on which the functional film is to be applied; applying (304) the functional film onto that face of the optical article; pressing (306) the functional film against that face of the optical article so as to adhere the functional film to that face of the optical article. This method further comprises heating (308) the functional film at at least one predetermined temperature after the applying (304), so that the functional film conforms to the curvature of that face of the optical article.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a novel lens unit being configured for spectral selective retinal stimulation modulation, which is advantageously a passive modulation effect in the lens of the invention. More specifically, the lens unit comprises a lens substrate having a certain volume defining a front and back surface, wherein the lens unit carries a spectral coder which, when the lens unit is in use, operates as a temporal spectral coder with respect to a portion of input light interacting with the lens unit and reaching the eye.

Abstract

Conventionally, eyewear is rated in terms of its absorption coefficient (sometimes called the optical density (OD)) or the protection that it provides from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can damage the eye at high enough power levels. Infrared (IR) radiation can also damage the eye, but IR damage tends to occur at a much slower rate than UV-induced damage. Rating eyewear in terms of protection from IR radiation and/or in terms of a maximum safe exposure duration (SED) to IR radiation improves consumers' ability to protect themselves from IR radiation. In addition, eyewear rated for more IR protection or longer SED may still provide excellent vision thanks to coatings that reflect or absorb IR light and transmit visible light.

Abstract

An ophthalmic single vision lens is presented, which is configured in accordance with original prescription parameters for vision correction of a patient. The lens has an aspheric modified surface such that as worn orientation of the lens corresponding to a relatively small physical pantoscopic tilt Ti provides visual quality corresponding to a substantially spherical lens surface having an optical power of the original prescription and orientation with simulated pantoscopic tilt T2 significantly higher than the physical pantoscopic tilt Ti, while maintaining the original prescription parameters within the aspheric modified surface.

Abstract

An ophthalmic lens is presented being configured for a user's prescribed optical power P0 for far vision correction. The lens comprises: a fitting position; a first region corresponding to a far measuring position having the prescribed optical power P0 a second region corresponding to a near measuring position. The lens is configured with an optical power addition profile such that an optical power, Pƒ, at the fitting position, located at a distance D1 not exceeding 10 millimeters below the far measuring position, is different from the optical power P0 by di, being 0.3D≤di≤0.8D (D is diopter). The optical power addition profile thereby providing an improved intermediate distance vision of the lens.

Abstract

Various embodiments disclose a quasi progressive lens including a first optical zone capable of providing distance vision, a second optical zone capable of providing near vision and a transition zone connecting the first and second optical zones. Physical dimensions (e.g., length and width) of the transition zone are adjusted to increase the size of the second optical zone in comparison to progressive lenses and to reduce residual cylinder power and aberrations along the convergence path in comparison to bifocal lenses.

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can harm the eye. Fortunately, a spectacle lens can be coated with a UV anti-reflection (AR) coating to reduce the amount of UV radiation incident on the eye. If the AR coating is on the back side of the lens (the convex surface closest to the eye), the AR coating will reduce the amount of UV light that is transmitted through the lens to the eye. It will also reduce the amount of UV light that is reflected off the back side of the lens toward the eye. The AR coating may include five or more alternating layers of silicon nitride and silicon dioxide or other suitable dielectric materials. It can be sputtered onto the back side of the lens as part of an on-block manufacturing (OBM) process while the ophthalmic lens blank is still attached to the block, before the ophthalmic lens blank is removed and edged.
