A vehicle interior component is disclosed. The component may provide a user interface system for an occupant in a vehicle. The component may comprise a composite structure presenting a user interface and comprising a substrate and cover. The user interface may comprise light display from a light source and an input device. The substrate may comprise a light-transmissive section/carrier to allow light transmission to the light display (transparent segments, translucent segments, light-transmissive body). The composite structure may comprise a functional layer for masking of light; optical enhancement; light shielding; diffusion of illumination; transmission of light; comfort; cushioning; adhesion or bonding. The functional layer may comprise a mask to block/alter light. The input device may be configured to detect input from the vehicle occupant at or adjacent to the surface of the cover. The light display may provide an animated output/effect.

Abstract
A vehicle interior trim component is disclosed. The component may support an airbag for deployment and may comprise a structural substrate comprising a reinforcement to secure a door to the structural substrate during airbag deployment. The reinforcement may comprise a stitch, a stitch pattern, a set of threads. The reinforcement may comprise a top stitch, upper set of threads, set of retaining threads or hinge threads and a bottom stitch, lower set of threads or sacrificial threads. During airbag deployment, the bottom stitch may separate and the top stitch may stretch and secure the door to the structural substrate. The structural substrate may comprise a fiber panel; the reinforcement may be comprised of bonded nylon thread sewn to the panel and pressed into a surface of the panel during compression forming. The reinforcement may comprise thread joined to the panel at a depression in the panel.

The fiber panel may be formed into a compression-formed component; the resin-formed structure may comprise a molded feature formed in the hole of the fiber panel. The resin-formed structure may reinforce the structural substrate. The fiber panel and the resin-formed structure may provide a substantially continuous structure. The resin-formed structure may extend along a surface of the fiber panel to form the resin-formed structure to the fiber panel. The cover may be applied to the fiber panel during compression molding. The component may comprise a trim panel, instrument panel, door panel, or other interior trim part. A method of manufacturing a vehicle trim component is also disclosed.
