Abstract

The present application describes a thin-walled single-serve perishable food container configured to be economically manufactured from metal and useable by a consumer in the existing single-serve metal container, for example, a disposable single-serve metal yogurt cup. The thin-walled container has a top flange coupled to a bottom with a cylindrical wall and a conical sidewall that extends inwardly from the top flange, such that a diameter of the bottom is less than a diameter of the top flange. The thin-walled container may house other foods, such as ground or pulverized organic or synthetic powdered mixtures or dried food. The container may also have a cover or lid that hermetically seals the contents.

Abstract

A metal can with a monolithic laminated hermetic seal is provided. The lid and sidewall of a can each include a laminated layer bonded to an interior surface. The lid and sidewall of the can are rolled to form a double seam and mechanically seal the can. When the double seal is formed through the mechanical rolling process and before heating, a bi-laminate layer forms between the adjacent laminated interior surfaces. The bi-laminate layer is then heated, causing each laminate layer to melt and fuse with the adjacent laminate layer. This creates a monolithic laminate layer that fills gaps within the double seam to form a hermetic seal that is impervious to air, water, gas, liquids, and other fluids.

Abstract

A one-piece, metal, reinforced-end battery cell spacer. The spacer replaces battery cells within a battery cell array, such as a lithium battery cell array. This permits a reduction in the power density and weight of the array by providing a rigid spacer to prevent movement of the battery cells relative to each other.

Abstract

A pierceable single serve liquid coffee concentrate container configured to be economically manufactured from metal and useable in existing single serve coffee makers is described. The pierceable container has a top flange coupled to a bottom with a cylindrical wall and a conical sidewall that extends inwardly from the top flange, such that a diameter of the bottom is less than a diameter of the top flange. The pierceable container may include a filter that holds a ground or pulverized organic or synthetic powdered mixture. The filter facilitates mixing and/or brewing the powdered contents, for example, in an instant mix coffee, cocoa, or tea beverage. The container may also have a cover or lid that hermetically seals the contents until the container is pierced and brewed.

Abstract

A one-piece, metal, reinforced-end battery cell spacer. The spacer replaces battery cells within a battery cell array, such as a lithium battery cell array. This permits a reduction in the power density and weight of the array by providing a rigid spacer to prevent movement of the battery cells relative to each other.

Abstract

A tamper evident metal foil closure for a container which provides visual evidence of tampering in the form of damage to the metal foil (e.g. tearing) and evidence of temperature tampering of the metal foil when heat is used to remove and reseal the metal foil. Containers sealed with this novel metal foil closure make it more difficult to tamper with or remove the container contents and then return the container for a refund.

Abstract

A spring assembly is provided which decreases the fatigue and wear on the springs of the assembly. The spring assembly includes upper and lower pistons separated by a substantially incompressible fluid. The lower piston is attached to one or more springs. The surface area of the upper surface of the lower piston is greater than the surface area of the lower surface of the upper piston. As such, the springs are deflected by a distance less than the distance traveled by the upper piston. By decreasing the length the springs are compressed, the springs are subject to less fatigue and wear. As a result, the life span of the springs is increased and the maintenance required of the spring assembly is minimized relative to that of typical spring assemblies.

Abstract

A system is provided for heating batches of sealed, metal cans containing a food product. The system includes a pressure chamber, an induction coil, a can support, a sealing device, a power supply, an air pressure source, and a drive. The pressure chamber has an opening. The induction coil is supported within the pressure chamber. The can support is for engaging and rotating a plurality of sealed, metal cans, at least a portion of the can support being movable through the opening from a first position outside of the chamber to a second position within the chamber adjacent to the induction coil and being rotatably supported within the chamber. The sealing device seals the pressure chamber when the can support is within the chamber. The power supply is coupled to the induction coil to energize the coil to apply an alternating current to the coil to induce a current into the metal cans which heats the food product of the metal cans. The air pressure source is coupled to the pressure chamber to pressurize the chamber during energization of the induction coil. The drive is coupled to the can support which rotates the can support during energization of the induction coil.

Abstract

A container configured to be stacked adjacent to a second container is provided. The container includes a sidewall having a first end, an end wall having a peripheral edge, a seam coupling the peripheral edge of the end wall to the first end of the sidewall, and an alignment feature coupled to the seam. The alignment feature includes an inner surface. The alignment feature is positioned relative to the seam such that, when the container is stacked adjacent to the second container, the inner surface of the alignment feature contacts an outer surface of a seam of the second container, the contact resisting lateral movement of the container relative to the second container.
