Described herein are a protective element configured to be connected to an electroacoustic transducer or a sound tube included in a hearing device, the protective element comprising a 3D-shaped membrane that has two or more first portions having a first thickness that are configured to transmit sound and two or more second portions having a second thickness. The first thickness is less than the second thickness such that a rigidity of the 3D-shaped membrane is greater at the two or more second portions than at the two or more first portions. A method is presented that includes providing audio signals to a deep neural network located in a hearing device, receiving signals from the deep neural network that are triggered by the transmitted audio signals, and determining whether the received signals were the expected signals. Specifically, the system can determine that an unauthorized entity embedded an unauthorized copy of the deep neural network in a hearing device.
There is provided a method of self-fitting of a binaural hearing system worn by a user. In one embodiment, a hearing device includes a housing configured for insertion in an ear canal of a user; and a face plate of the housing configured to carry electronic components of the hearing device. An illustrative hearing system may include an optical waveguide at least partially positioned within an ear canal of a user and having a sensing region located between a first end and a second end of the optical waveguide. A light source may be configured to emit light into the optical waveguide at the first end, such that a first portion of the light may exit the optical waveguide at the sensing region and be absorbed by cerumen within the ear canal. A detector may be configured to detect a second portion of the light that exits the optical waveguide at the second end. A processing unit may be configured to determine, based on the second portion of the light detected by the detector and the light emitted by the light source, a glucose value representative of a glucose concentration in the cerumen.
An exemplary system includes a memory storing instructions and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory and configured to execute the instructions to perform a process comprising: accessing fitting data representative of fitting parameters set by a fitting application to fit a hearing device to a user; determining user behavior data indicative of a hearing intention of the user in an auditory scene where the user is located; determining auditory scene data representative of information about the auditory scene; and implementing, based on the fitting data, the user behavior data, and the auditory scene data, a sound processing delay scheme for use by the hearing device.

A method of processing sensor data generated in a hearing device is disclosed, the hearing device comprising a BTE housing configured to be worn behind an ear of a user and an ITE housing configured to be at least partially inserted into an ear canal of the ear. The method may include receiving, from a movement sensor included in the BTE housing, BTE housing movement data indicative of movements of the BTE housing; receiving, from an ear canal sensor included in the ITE housing, ear canal sensor data affected by movements of an ear canal wall, characterized by determining a correlation between the BTE housing movement data and at least part of the ear canal sensor data; and separating, based on the correlation, information about movements of the ear canal wall relative to the BTE housing from at least part of the ear canal sensor data.
An exemplary hearing device is configured to determine a first and a second sound pressure level (SPL) of a first and second spectral portion, respectively, of an ipsilateral audio signal representative of audio content. The first and second spectral portions have frequencies included in a first and a second frequency range, respectively, with the second frequency range being higher than the first frequency range. The device may further determine that the first SPL is greater than the second SPL by at least a threshold SPL amount and determine that a symmetry level between the ipsilateral and a contralateral audio signal is at least a threshold symmetry level. A system includes a user-worn device such as a hearing device having a physiological sensor for measuring physiologic data or physical activity data of a user, and a user computing device. The user computing device is in communication with the user-worn device executes an app that obtains the physiologic data or physical activity data of the user from the user-worn device. The user computing device also, for each of a plurality time recurring time periods (e.g., one week), evaluates the obtained data for a current or prior time period and determines a current physical activity level based on the evaluated data, and adaptively determines a physical activity goal for a coming time period based on the determined current physical activity level.

An exemplary system includes a processor communicatively coupled to a memory and configured to execute instructions to generate a modified audiogram for a user of a hearing device. The modified audiogram may be based on a frequency lowering scheme that maps at least some audio frequencies included in a first set of audio frequencies to relatively lower audio frequencies to form a second set of audio frequencies. The modified audiogram may indicate a set of modified hearing thresholds of the user at the first set of audio frequencies. The generating of the modified audiogram may include applying an inverse of the frequency lowering scheme to the set of modified hearing thresholds at the second set of audio frequencies to obtain the set of modified hearing thresholds of the modified audiogram at the first set of audio frequencies.
An illustrative hearing device may be configured to determine that first sensor data output by a first sensor included in the hearing device satisfies a first predetermined condition and query, based on the first sensor data satisfying the first predetermined condition, a second sensor included in the hearing device for second sensor data. The hearing device may further be configured to determine that second sensor data output from the second sensor satisfies a second predetermined condition and initiate, based on at least the first sensor data satisfying the first predetermined condition and the second sensor data satisfying the second predetermined condition, operation of a physiological sensor included in the hearing device and configured to measure a physiological property of the user.
An exemplary system includes a processor communicatively coupled to a memory and configured to execute instructions to access configuration parameters indicative of a current configuration of a hearing device and determine, based on the configuration parameters, a plurality of text-based notifications associated with the current configuration of the hearing device. Each text-based notification included in the plurality of text-based notifications may be indicative of a different issue to be considered when fitting the hearing device to a user. A hearing device arrangement includes two hearing devices which are connected to each other in a data transmitting manner. Each hearing device includes an audio input unit for obtaining an input audio signal, a processing unit for audio signal processing of the input audio signal to obtain an output audio signal, a neural network which, when executed by the processing unit performs a processing step of the audio signal processing, and an audio output unit for outputting the output audio signal.
