Apparatus (1) for applying adhesive to a string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3) during manufacture of an innerspring assembly, which apparatus (1) comprises a plurality of independently actuatable adhesive applicators (5), each having a different transverse position relative to a longitudinal axis of the string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3), and means for causing relative movement between the string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3) and the plurality of adhesive applicators (5), along a longitudinal axis of the string (2), wherein the apparatus (1) is adapted to apply adhesive to the string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3), during relative movement between the first string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3) and the plurality of adhesive applicators (5), in a pattern that varies between at least some pockets of the string (2) of pocketed coil springs (3).
An apparatus is disclosed for the manufacture of a coil spring from a wire. The apparatus comprises first and second tools for contacting the wire prior to, and/or during, deformation of the wire into a coil spring. The apparatus includes means for applying an electrical potential difference between the first and second tools such that an electric current is caused to flow through at least part of the wire during use.

Apparatus (20,30) is disclosed for the manufacture of a coil spring (40) from a wire (12). The apparatus (20, 30) comprises first and second tools (24, 28), for contacting the wire (12) prior to, and/or during, deformation of the wire (12) into a coil spring (40), wherein the apparatus (20, 30) includes means for applying an electrical potential difference between the first and second tools (24, 28), such that an electric current is caused to flow through at least part of the wire (12), during use.
