Abstract

A method and system for early detection of Bovine Mastitis (BM) uses enhanced chemiluminescence (CL) to determine Haptoglobin (Hp) levels in highly diluted milk samples. The samples are placed in the wells of one or more bio-functionalized Hemoglobin (Hb) modified CL assay plates. Hp-Hb binding occurs in those samples containing Hp. After a first pre-determined time duration, the wells are treated with a CL solution containing luminol and peroxide, and a colloidal suspension of crosslinked nanoparticles. After a second pre-determined time duration, the CL intensity approaches a steady state value. A processor analyzes CL images provided by a camera in order to measure CL intensity and to determine an estimate of Hp level in each well, based on a pre-determined regression curve. The processor then forms a BM clinical diagnosis by combining the estimated HP levels from wells with different milk sample dilutions.

Abstract

A method and system for monitoring invasive species in an algal bioreactor utilizes a low resolution Raman spectrometer (LRRS) system and signal processing methods based upon Support Vector Machine (SVM) models. A spectrum preprocessing algorithm transforms LRRS spectra into normalized spectral data vectors. An ex-situ method is used to analyze a calibration set of known samples of a suspension containing a desired biomass, such as spirolina, together with various concentrations of invasive algal or cyanobacterial species. The ex-situ method generates SVM models and their associated SVM support vectors for classification modeling. An in-situ method uses the SVM models to provide an output vector of probability values corresponding to the presence of invasive species in an unknown sample, and optionally to provide an additional output vector of probability values corresponding to concentrations of the invasive species in the unknown sample.

Abstract

The present application discloses a method for the early detection of bacterial diseases of potato tubers. More particularly, the present application discloses a method for identifying bacteria which cause blackleg and tuber soft rot diseases in potato tubers based on the identification of unique patterns of volatile compounds. The method disclosed herein can serve for the differentiation of non-inoculated samples from inoculated samples, distinguishing and identifying inoculation by different bacterial genera (Pectobacterium and Dickeya spp), different bacterial species and different bacterial sub-species. The detection relies on specific combinations of volatile compounds associated with each of the above-mentioned groups, which can serve as an applicable tool to detect tuber pathologies in storage rooms and shipments.

Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods for treating agricultural particulates, such as buds, Cannabis buds, herbs, leaves, and the like, with a treatment agent, such as steam, as the agricultural products move forward along a pathway created by a conveyer, in a chamber, enclosed by an aligned ceiling and floor, and oppositely disposed lateral walls. The exposure times to the steam, created by the intervals and lengths in which steam enters the chamber results in the elimination (destruction) and/or neutralization of the pathogens on the agricultural particulates, while the agricultural particulates remain undamaged and active.

Abstract

The present invention discloses a system and a method for detecting different developmental stages of fungi life cycle in postharvest crops. More particularly, the system comprises a measuring transducer, such as a CMOS photodetector and immobilized fungal nucleic acid strands. RNA from the tested postharvest produce sample is loaded onto the system of the present invention, and specific fungal mRNA transcripts anneal to the immobilized strands. A reporter strand conjugated to a signal-generating component further binds the mRNA transcripts, and when a detectable reaction is produced post binding, the transducer captures said reaction and converts it to measurable values, indicating the quantity, presence and the developmental stage of the fungus.

Abstract

The present disclosure discloses a method for evaluating the nutritional status in plants, using visible-to-shortwave (VIS-SWIR) infrared reflectance spectroscopy of carbohydrates, particularly in almond trees. The method comprises obtaining a dry plant sample (i.e. leaves, branches and roots), digesting and grinding it to a powder, capturing predetermined spectral data of the ground plant sample, correlating said spectral data to predetermined materials and evaluating said nitrogen status of said plants according to predetermined multivariate statistical models. The data obtained from this method facilitates crop management and fertilization by providing the nitrogen status of the plants based on non-structural carbohydrates.

Abstract

The present invention provides a system and method for recognizing and segregating chicks by sex according to their feathers pattern. The system and method are based on the instinctive reaction of chicks to spread their wings in order to maintain stability in response to instantaneous disorientation, for example, due to a sudden change in spatial movement. The present invention further features a weighing system and a system for detecting external body defects of chicks for assessing chicks' health.

Abstract

A method of finishing a filamentous material includes the application of an active finishing mixture to a filamentous material. The active finishing mixture includes a cyclodextrin and at least one active agent. The method utilizes finishing that is regularly used in the nonwoven fabric industry and is compatible with existing equipment and factory lines. The active finishing preferably includes β-cyclodextrin which allows incorporating otherwise incompatible sensitive active agents (for instance hydrophobic agents), to protect sensitive active agents that have a tendency of fast decomposition, to encapsulate volatile active agents and prevent their escape from the fabric surface and, in general, to increase the capacity of the fabrics toward active agents.
