Discloses a hydrometallurgical process and system for the recovery of precious metals; specifically palladium, rhodium and platinum metals, at high purity and with limited waste and environmental fouling from a feed stream containing lower value metal impurities such as lead, iron, nickel, selenium, tellurium, sulfur, arsenic, or combinations of these compounds. In the recovery process, base metals complexes are altered to cations and quantitatively removed on an ion exchange resin, while precious metals are anionic and do not load on the ion exchange media and pass through at very high blended purity for further separation and recovery.
