Abstract

A kink-resistant hose comprises a tubing and at least one anti-kinking member disposed within an interior volume of the tubing. The outer diameter of the anti-kinking member is less than the inner diameter of the tubing, wherein the anti-kinking member and the tubing are coextruded such that the anti-kinking member is free-floating within the interior volume of the tubing. A cross-sectional area of the anti-kinking member is less than the area of a circle with diameter equal to the maximal diameter of the anti-kinking member. The anti-kinking member thereby defines propped open flow channels, extending radially between an outer surface of the anti-kinking member and an inner surface of the tubing at a kink point, for conveying fluid through a kink in the tubing. A restraint mechanism located in at least the first distal end of the tubing restrains longitudinal movement of the anti-kinking member through the tubing.

Abstract

Two piece male hose coupler assembly includes a nut and a separate expandable tube. The nut has a first end portion with male threads on the exterior surface, and a second end portion having a gripping collar on the exterior surface. The nut has an open through bore defining an interior surface. An expandable tube is positionable within the bore of the nut, wherein the tube is expanded outwardly to pinch one end of a hose between an exterior surface of the tube and the bore of the nut so that the hose is sealed between the tube and the nut. Further, the tube has a radial flange at one end that seats against a radial mating surface at or adjacent the first end of the nut. The assembly thus provides a relatively leak proof connection including sealing surfaces between the mating radial flanges, and also along the mating longitudinal surfaces of the nut and hose extending along the longitudinal axis of the hose. A method is provided for assembling the nut and tube at one end of the hose.

Abstract

Multilayer hose construction and hose formulation provide a surprising combination of physical properties and enhanced performance, more specifically providing improved kink resistance and burst strength. The garden hose comprises an extruded composite tube including core and jacket layers of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound and an intermediate reinforcement layer having interstices through which the core and jacket layers are bonded, the PVC compound comprising: 100 PPH (parts in weight per hundred parts of resin) of PVC resin; and 45-75 PPH of plasticizer. The PVC compound has a K value in a range of 79-85 measured according to standard ISO1628-2 and a specific gravity in a range of 1.17-1.23 measured according to standard ASTM D792. The composite tube has a bend radius of less than 3 inch and the composite tube has a minimum burst pressure of 500 psi measured according to standard ISO 1402:2009.
