Abstract

A device is disclosed for producing non-hydrated purified hydrogen peroxide gas (PHPG). The device comprises an enclosure; an air distribution mechanism providing an airflow; an air-penneable substrate structure comprising a mesh having a percentage of open area between 10% and 60% and having a catalyst on the surface of the air-permeable substrate structure; and a source of light selected from the group consisting of a light emitting diode (LED), an incandescent lamp, an arc lamp, a fluorescent lamp, an ultraviolet (UV) lamp, and combinations thereof. The airflow is through the air-permeable substrate structure. The device produces PHPG and directs the PHPG out of the enclosure when in operation; and the device produces PHPG at a rate sufficient to establish a steady state concentration of PHPG of at least 0.005 ppm in a closed air volume of 10 cubic meters.
