Abstract

The present invention is concerned with a drug delivery device for subcutaneous delivery of a liquid to a patient comprising an electric Brushless Direct Current BLDC motor for driving a piston or stopper in a cartridge to dispense the liquid from the cartridge. The motor is controlled by a motor control unit including a driver circuit with a plurality of switches arranged in H-Bridge topology and alternatingly connecting a first and a second coil terminal of a stator coil of the motor to a supply DC voltage V+ and to ground GND voltage. The motor control unit is adapted to be operated in a motor monitor mode with zero torque applied to a rotor of the motor and allowing a voltage measurement unit to measure a Back Electro-Magnetic Force Back-EMF induced in the stator coil between the first coil terminal and ground GND. The Back-EMF being available at the first coil terminal obviates the need for extra circuitry to subtract a first from a second terminal voltage, and thus results in a control unit with less components.

Abstract

Dosing device for an administration device with a limiting mechanism containing: a dosing sleeve with a first stop means and a stop wheel with a second stop means adapted to continually and proportionally follow a movement of the dosing sleeve during dosing movements. The two-stage approach with serially executed peak detection and peak identification separates an initial localization of a signal peak possibly related to a feedback event from a subsequent analysis of the detected signal peak in view of a possible source or origin feedback event, and allows to optimize data storage and processing power requirements.

Abstract

The invention relates to an electronic add-on module (2) which is fitted releasably onto an automatic injection appliance (1) before the start of injection. The add-on module comprises a force sensor (22) for measuring a time-variable axial force component that is exerted on or transmitted to the attached add-on module by the injection appliance during an injection procedure. The add-on module also comprises a handle (21) or a preferred grip position for gripping and holding the add-on module and the inserted injection appliance. The add-on module can additionally have a microphone (23e) for the detection of acoustic signals. A state of the injection appliance can be determined by the add-on module solely on the basis of the measurements of the axial force sensor, optionally supplemented by measurements of the microphone. The invention thus affords a straightforward and cost-effective way of monitoring or controlling the correct performance of an injection procedure carried out with an automatic injection appliance.

Abstract

The invention is concerned with a simple and reliable manner of monitoring a handling or use of injection devices (1) by means of a reusable electronic module (2). According to the invention, a displacement of a component (14a, 14b) of the injection device between an initial position and an intermediate position, and a subsequent displacement of the same component between the intermediate position and a final position essentially identical with the initial position is observed by one and the same sensor (22a, 22b) comprised in an electronic module separate from the injection device. A status or state of the injection device is then inferred in the electronic module from these two observations by way of digitally processing sensor output information. The invention thus enables secure, easy and cost- effective operation of components, devices and systems for the generation, collection and distribution of data associated with the handling or use of the injection devices.

Abstract

A needle insertion and retraction mechanism for a medication delivery device for delivering a medicament from a reservoir having a septum, the delivery device having a housing with a bottom surface attachable to the skin of a patient. Abstract

A segmented piston rod for an injection device for delivering a medication from a reservoir having a stopper, the piston rod comprising multiple segments that each are joined together via a hinge located on the lateral side of each segment. Injection system comprising a) a first reservoir module (1) with a first reservoir (5) for a liquid medicament and with a first piston (6) for expelling a medicament dose, b) a second reservoir module (2) with a second reservoir (5) for a liquid medicament and with a second piston (6) for expelling a medicament dose, and c) a mechanical module (4) for adjusting and expelling the medicament dose, for a connection of the mechanical module (4) to either the first or the second reservoir module (1, 2), and a movable expulsion member (30), characterized in that d), in a starting state of the reservoir modules (1, 2), as long as no medicament has been expelled, the first reservoir (5) has a different filling level than the second reservoir (5), and e), in accordance with the difference in filling level, the front of the first piston (6) directed towards the medicament is at a different axial distance (A) from the outlet of the first reservoir (5) than the front of the second piston (6) from the outlet of the second reservoir (5), f) but the force introduction point of the first piston (6) is at the same axial distance (B) from the first connection structure (15) as the force introduction point of the second piston (6) from the second connection structure (15).
