Abstract

A method for manufacturing and regenerating a functional surface of an anilox sleeve or anilox roller for a printing machine with a coating protecting against wear and corrosion. The anilox sleeve is preferably made out of a lightweight plastic on which an intermediate layer is applied and has a metal tube located above the intermediate layer. During a first phase, the worn engraving and the old layer are ground off from the cylindrical surface of the anilox sleeve, that is to say from the metal tube, and a coating, a carbidic tungsten carbide-cobalt-chromium layer (WC—Co—Cr) is subsequently applied. This carbidic layer is applied by a high-speed flame spraying (HVOF) process and subsequently functionalized by laser.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for regenerating or producing for the first time a surface on a sleeve for a printing machine by means of a new coating, wherein the coating protects against wear and corrosion. This coating comprises a tungsten carbide/cobalt (WC-Co) ceramic layer, which is applied to the surface by an HVOF process. The sleeve is provided with an engravable surface layer of WC-Co, which is applied to an adherent surface (HG).

The invention concerns a process for manufacturing a metering roll especially usable in flexographic printing presses, in varnish stations for offset presses and/or in short ink train dry offset presses for example, comprising a central cylindrical core (11) and at least one layer (12) of a hard material peripheral coating that is engraved by use of a laser beam. This process comprises at least a first step of melting superficially at least partially the hard material coating, a second step when the melted hard material solidifies and forms a flat surface free of engraving and a third step of engraving again the hard material coating with a laser beam within the re-melted zone.
