Abstract

A composition, manufacturing methods, and method of use for controlling wood-destroying pests are disclosed. The composition includes an active ingredient that is a chitin synthesis inhibitor such as noviflumuron, a binder, a filler that includes cellulosic food material palatable to termites, and a solvent. The composition is a viscous, adhesive bait. A method for manufacturing the adhesive bait includes mixing water and binder in heated vessel, dry blending active ingredient and filler, mixing the blended ingredients in the vessel at high temperature, and reducing temperature while mixing. The method for use includes identifying an active above-ground termite infestation, applying adhesive bait to the infestation site, and covering the bait. Applying the adhesive bait may include extruding the bait from an applicator tool such as a caulk gun. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract

A device, system, and method of controlling pests are disclosed. The system includes an active infrared sensor including infrared emitters and photodetectors. The active infrared sensor is configured to determine an active infrared signature for a monitored space, determine whether the active infrared signature is outside a predetermined window in relation to a baseline signature, and activate a controller in response to determining that the active infrared signature is outside the window. The controller is configured to perform a pest control action in response to activation. The pest control action may include notifying a remote system. The active infrared sensor may be included in a housing having a first opening, a second opening, and a passage sized to receive an insect. The active infrared sensor may be coupled to the housing such that the active infrared sensor is positioned to illuminate part of the passage.

Abstract

A device, system, and method of controlling pests are disclosed. A pest control device includes a sensor having a sensor cell and a controller. A surface of the sensor cell is coated with an agent that reacts with a targeted biochemical analyte secreted by pests. The controller is coupled to the sensor and is configured to receive sensor data from the sensor cell indicative of a rate of change in sensor mass detected on the surface of the sensor cell, determine whether the rate of change in the sensor mass based on the received sensor data exceeds a predefined threshold rate, and transmit a pest detection alert notification to a server in response to a determination that the rate of change exceeds the predetermined threshold rate.

This invention relates in part to soybean event pDAB8264.44.06.1 and includes a novel expression cassettes and transgenic inserts comprising multiple traits conferring resistance to glyphosate, aryloxyalkanoate, and glufosinate herbicides. This invention also relates in part to methods of controlling resistant weeds, plant breeding and herbicide tolerant plants. In some embodiments, the event sequence can be “stacked” with other traits, including, for example, other herbicide tolerance gene(s) and/or insect-inhibitory proteins. This invention further relates in part to endpoint TaqMan PCR assays for the detection of Event pDAB8264.44.06.1 in soybeans and related plant material. Some embodiments can perform high throughput zygosity analysis of plant material and other embodiments can be used to uniquely identify the zygosity of and breed soybean lines comprising the event of the subject invention. Kits and conditions useful in conducting these assays are also provided.

Abstract

Methods for preparing 5-fluoro-6-(bromo or chloro)picloram analogs, or derivatives thereof, from picloram acid, picloram ester, or the nitrile analog of picloram are provided. The methods include chemical process steps that: (1) introduce a phthaloyl group onto the 4-amino substituent of picloram acid, picloram ester, or the nitrile analog of picloram, (2) add 2 fluorine atoms at the 5,6-positions of the pyridine ring using halex fluorination chemistry, (3) remove the phthaloyl group, hydrolyze the ester or nitrile substituent, and add chlorine or bromine to the 6-position by treatment with an acid and water, and finally, (4) esterify the 5-fluoro-6-(bromo or chloro)picloram acid produced in step (3) to a 5-fluoro-6-(bromo or chloro)picloram ester.

Abstract

Methods and compositions to reduce spray drift during application and/or volatility after application can be reduced by incorporating certain tertiary amine or tertiary amine oxide surfactants into an aqueous herbicidal spray mixture containing dicamba. The use of the choline salt of dicamba and the presence of 3,6-dichlorosalicylic acid (DCSA) or a salicylic acid derivative can further reduce drift and volatility. In some embodiments, the composition can contain one or more additional pesticides, such as glyphosate, glufosinate, or mixtures thereof. The concentration of 3,6-dichlorosalicylic acid or the salicylic acid derivative is typically greater than about 25 ppm by weight of the spray mixture.

Abstract

The present disclosure concerns a method for preparing florasulam which involves treating a solution of 2,6-difluoroaniline in 1,2-propylene glycol with: a) sulfonyl chloride III and then b) a base to provide, after workup and isolation, florasulam (I) in yields of about 65-85%. The treatment of 2,6-difluoroaniline with sulfonyl chloride III and the base are conducted by controlled additions.

Abstract

Provided are methods, vectors and gene constructs for enhancing expression of a recombinant nucleic acid sequence in transgenic plants and plant tissues. According to the present invention, nucleic acid sequences are obtained and/or derived from the 3' untranslated regions of Zea mays chlorophyll a/b binding protein gene and engineered to flank respective portions of a selected coding region of a vector. The vector construct may be introduced into plants and/or plant tissues through conventional or gene targeting procedures, resulting in enhanced expression of the selected coding region. In some embodiments, the selected coding region is a chimeric gene or gene fragment expressing one or more proteins known to impart a level of insecticidal activity to a transgenic plant and/or plant tissue.
