The present invention proposes a measuring probe for a measurement of the material distribution inside the burden of a blast furnace. The measuring probe comprises a sensor with a transmitter coil and a receiver coil, which are protected by a protective shell against heat and abrasion. An alternating current is applied to the transmitter coil that emits a primary alternating magnetic field, which induces eddy currents in any electrically conductive material of the burden within the primary alternating magnetic field. The eddy currents generate a secondary alternating magnetic field and a receiver coil measures an electrical current, which is generated by the primary alternating magnetic field and the secondary alternating magnetic field. The measured electrical current is evaluated by a control and evaluation unit. The electrical current is indicative of the material distribution inside the burden of a blast furnace.
The present invention relates to a method for refurbishing a tap-hole. The method comprises the following steps: A making a tap-hole channel trough a tap-hole block in a lower section of an arc, blast or smelter furnace, and B restoring said tap-hole channel to form a refurbished tap-hole; characterized by the following steps: 1. detachably connecting a prefabricated, hollow, refractory tap-hole insert comprising a shell to a clay gun, wherein said tap-hole insert comprises a. a first end and a second end in axial direction, wherein said second end is blocked. b. an opening arranged on said first end, c. a hollow passage in axial direction, wherein said hollow passage is accessible through said opening, d. at least one lateral through hole, arranged in said shell, 2. inserting said tap-hole insert into said tap-hole channel, wherein said clay gun is fluidly coupled with said tap-hole insert and said tap-hole channel, 3. injecting a grouting material from said clay gun into said tap-hole insert and through said through hole into said tap-hole channel and, 4. disconnecting said tap-hole insert from said clay gun.

The invention relates to a mechanical sensor (2) of the level of fill of a cavity (10), for example, a blast furnace, which is mounted on a fixed flange (12) provided on a dome (1) of the cavity (10). The mechanical sensor (2) includes a weight (3) suspended at the end of a chain (31) passing through the dome (11) of the cavity (10), and a winch (4) which includes a drum arranged to wind and unwind the chain (31) on the drum in order to cause the weight (3) to descend and ascend; and a means (40, 40') for controlling the drum to control the rotation or the stopping of the drum depending on the position of the weight (3). The winch (1) further includes a means for determining the length of the wound or unwound chain (31). According to the invention, the mechanical sensor (1) includes a force meter (5, 5') for detecting a decrease in the tension of the chain (31) when the weight (3) rests on a surface (S) of material loaded in the cavity (10). The meter (5) is mounted between the control means (40, 40') and a stationary mounting (22) that is rigidly connected to a drum casing. The control means (40, 40') of the winch (4) is rotatably mounted on the stationary mounting (22) by connecting means along a pivot axis (A) and by a rocker bar (45, 45') arranged at a distance from the pivot axis, the rocker bar (45, 45') including the meter (5) and the meter (5) being arranged such as to continuously measure the axial force applied on the rocker bar. The invention further relates to a method for determining the position of the level of material filled in a cavity and the variation in said position.

The invention relates to a device for distributing a material in a molten state, said device comprising a swinging chute (16) supported so as to be capable of swinging about a substantially horizontal swinging axis (25), and a driving group (40). The latter comprises gear motor group (42), a drum winch (44) driven by the gear motor group (42), and at least one cable segment (50, 50’) that can be both wound on or unwound from said drum. One end of the cable segment (46, 50, 50') is attached to the swinging chute (16) at a distance L from the swinging axis (25) thereof so as to apply a swinging momentum to said swinging chute (16).
The present invention relates to a handling device (10) for elements of tapping runners on a shaft furnace, in particular for runner covers. This device comprises a support base (12) arranged on the cast house floor of a blast furnace, laterally of the tapping runner and a frame (14) which is supported by the support base (12) and connected thereto by means of a bearing (38) defining a first axis of rotation (A), which is essentially vertical and about which the frame (14) can rotate relative to the support base (12). The device further comprises a lifting arm (16) having a first end portion (18) and a second end portion (20), the first end portion (18) being connected to the frame (14) by means of at least a first rotational joint (22) defining a second axis of rotation (B), which is essentially horizontal, about which the lifting arm (16) can pivot in order to lower or lift its second end portion (20). A handling member (24) is connected to the second end portion (20) of the lifting arm (16) by means of a second rotational joint (54) defining a third axis of rotation (C), which lies in a plane essentially perpendicular to the second axis of rotation (B), about which the handling member (24) can pivot with respect to the lifting arm (16). Furthermore, the handling device (10) comprises a fork-type grab (26) connected to the handling member (24) and arranged so as to allow picking up; transferring and putting down such elements. The present invention also concerns the use of this handling device (10) in a blast furnace installation, the handling device (10) being installed between two proximate main runners (76, 78) extending radially from the blast furnace (75), for removing, parking, installing and/or exchanging both runner covers (70, 70') of both blast furnace main runners (76, 78).
