Abstract

Provided is a coating device 1 which comprises: a coating processing unit 30 for performing predetermined coating processing with respect to a printed surface of a workpiece 2, which is a sheet-like object or a plate-like object having a surface that has been subjected to electronic print processing; a pair of pressure rollers 21, 22 which are arranged upstream or downstream of the coating processing unit 30 and which deliver the workpiece 2 while sandwiching and applying pressure to the workpiece 2; and a heating unit 23, 57 which is arranged in the same position as the pair of pressure rollers 21, 22 or upstream thereof, with respect to a conveying direction of the workpiece 2, and which heats the printed surface of the workpiece 2.

Abstract

While a printed matter (1) is held between a thermal ribbon (11) having a transfer layer (11c) principally comprising resin which becomes a transparent film by melting, and a backup belt (18) and transported, a heating bar (12) is brought into pressure contact with a platen roller (19) and heated above the melting point of the resin in the transfer layer thus performing thermal transfer onto the print surface of the printed matter. When thermal transfer is performed continuously, using a thermal ribbon wider than the printed matter, from immediately before the front end of the printed matter arrives at the thermal transfer point to immediately after the rear end passes over the thermal transfer point, a transparent protective film (11c') of re-solidified resin is formed to cover the print surface of the printed matter entirely. Since the printed matter is cold peeled by means of a peel roller (15) and the resin of the transfer layer on the periphery of the print surface of the printed matter is not transferred by the backup means but left on the thermal ribbon side, the backup belt can be used repeatedly without staining.
