Abstract
Methods and materials for recombinantly producing apocarotenoids from transgenic plants, and more particularly, tomato and potato plants, expressing heterologous genes from Crocus sativus, the saffron plant, under the control of specific promoters. Moreover, the genetic constructs including the heterologous genes are also related, and the use thereof for the expression in plants and to a method for obtaining transgenic plants which express the genetic construct mentioned above, and which have a high concentration of apocarotenoids products, in particular crocins and picrocrocins. Furthermore, the the food products obtained from such transgenic plants are also related, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical compositions including thereof and the use of such compositions as medicine, preferably for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
The present invention relates to biomarkers and methods for use thereof in the diagnosis and/or prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). More specifically, it relates to the use of a panel of biomarkers in an in vitro method in which the expression levels of said panel of biomarkers in a biological sample from a subject are indicative of the subject's risk of developing the disease.
The invention relates to an electroabsorption unit for treating gas streams contaminated with volatile organic compounds and odourants, wherein the unit combines an absorption column in the upper part with an electrochemical cell in the lower part, both parts being adjacent and in contact by means of a grate for supporting the filling of the absorption column. The lower cover of the electrochemical cell also includes conductive supports to connect a source of electromotive force to electrodes. The gas to be degraded enters through the interface at the support grate and rises through the column against the current of the liquid phase.

A method for modulating green character of wine, as well as wine obtainable according to the method also relates to the use of a vine-shoot material as winemaking additive for modulating green character in wine, wherein the vine-shoot material is toasted vine-shoot material. The method includes the steps of providing a vine-shoot material, which is subjected to heating at a predetermined temperature during a period in the range from 30 to 120 minutes; and subjecting a fermentable mixture to fermentation, wherein a determined concentration of the vine-shoot material results from the heating step.
The present invention discloses a hybrid material for detecting acid and base vapours, said material comprising a metal-organic framework and at least one colouring agent encapsulated in the pores of said metal-organic framework having proton transfer processes. Abstract
The invention relates to a new kind of electrocatalyst to be incorporated as part of the electrodes, anode and cathode, in water electrolysers aimed for hydrogen production through the electrochemical splitting of water into oxygen and hydrogen. The electrocatalyst is characterized by a layered and porous structure that provides a high performance towards the oxygen evolution reaction in the absence of added ionomer. Abstract
The invention provides methods and materials for recombinantly producing apocarotenoids from transgenic plants, and more particularly, tomato and potato plants, expressing heterologous genes from Crocus sativus, the saffron plant, under the control of specific promoters. The present invention relates to a new methodology for obtaining hybrid nanomaterials from different materials with the potential to be exfoliated into 2D laminates using a ball milling methodology and, furthermore, functionalizing these materials during their synthesis with metallic nanoparticles at room temperature and with a simple and environmentally friendly methodology.

The present invention relates to biomarkers and methods for use in the diagnosis and/or prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). More specifically, the present invention relates to the use of a biomarker panel in an in vitro method wherein the expression levels of said biomarker panel in a biological sample from a patient are indicative of the risk of the patient developing the disease .
The present invention relates to the use of a guanylated fluorphore as a sulfate sensor and more in particular it relates to a method for selectively detecting and, optionally, quantifying sulfate anions in an aqueous sample by fluorescence spectroscopy using a guanylated fluorophore comprising a fluorescent group, containing a substituted or unsubstituted planar fluorescent core, and a guanidinyl moiety. The present invention also relates to a guanylated fluorophore comprising a fluorescent group and a guanidinyl moiety, wherein the fluorescent group is a fluorenyl group and the guanidinyl moiety is an alkyl substituted guanidinyl group. The present invention also relates to method for preparing such a guanylated fluorophore.

Abstract
The present invention relates to an automatic, programmable, adaptive, low-cost system that allows the complete work flow of a bio-indicator system to be carried out from capture to analysis and identification of specimens of interest. In the case of diatom analysis, the system allows water quality indices to be determined. The subject matter of the invention has direct use in image analysis programmes for microscopy, analysis of medical images, forensic images, water quality monitoring systems, mobile phones, inter alia. The invention provides a system that is helpful both for experts and for end users in those tasks related to automatic taxonomic diatom identification, as well as in the calculation of biotic indices in monitoring the ecological state of rivers.

Abstract
The invention relates to mutations of Candida albicans lacking functional copies of their PIR1 gene, preferably via deletion in all the copies thereof, as well as a method for producing same. Said mutations are attenuated strains that do not cause candidiasis symptoms, but do provide protection against same when injected into an animal prior to infection with an infectious strain. The invention comprises the use of said mutations to trigger a protective response against candidiasis, or specifically as live attenuated vaccines, in particular against disseminated candidiasis.
The invention relates to an electric current generating device for use in the treatment of motor disorders, sensory disorders and pain, comprising at least one amperage selector, a milliammeter and electric current output terminals. The invention relates to a method for producing footwear with a controlled internal temperature, comprising the application of microcapsules containing phase change materials to footwear components, such as middle soles, soles, insoles or lining, and the application of a preferably aqueous adhesive. For components such as soles, insoles and middle soles, the microcapsules are applied first, followed by the adhesive. In the case of a lining component, a mixture of the adhesive and the microcapsules is applied. In both cases, the adhesive is applied using an air gun, with pressures of 0.5 to 10 bar, preferably 0.5 to 2 bar. A footwear item is obtained, such as a shoe or a boot, with components that provide thermal comfort while maintaining the internal temperature at around 32º C.

The invention relates to a process for microencapsulation of phase change materials based on free radicals polymerization comprising: a) the preparation of i) a solution with, at least, a hydrophilic liquid and a stabilizer (continuous phase) and ii) a solution with, at least, a phase change material, a free radical initiator and a polymerizable material (discontinuous phase); b) the preparation of an emulsion by dispersing the discontinuous phase in the continuous phase under vigorous stirring; and c) the polymerization of monomers until the phase change material becomes microencapsulated. This process is simple and effective and avoids the use of hazardous compounds. The invention also relates to microcapsules obtainable by said process and to the use thereof in the thermal protection and storage of heat.

USE OF THE PEDF FACTOR TO INDUCE CELL REGENERATION
Use of the PEDF factor to induce cell regeneration. The present invention refers to the use of the molecule PEDF for the manufacture of medicines to activate processes included in the group of regenerative processes, such as skin regeneration, wound healing, cell therapy for cardiac, neural, or hematopoietic regeneration. It also refers to the manufacture/use of pharmaceutical compounds that contain an efficient quantity of the PEDF factor for stem cell self-renewal.

The invention relates to a method for the analysis of pesticide residues in plants. The inventive method uses the interface device for the direct coupling of liquid chromatography and gas chromatography, known in scientific literature as TOTAD interface (Through Oven Transfer Adsorption Desorption). The method simply requires an extraction step prior to the chromatographic analysis. The pesticides are extracted from the sample with an organic solvent. Volumes of extract, which are much greater than those normally used, are injected directly into the gas chromatography, without requiring any prior extract concentration or cleaning step. The TOTAD interface enables the injection of volumes of extract that are much greater than those normally injected into the gas chromatography.
