Abstract

The present application relates to a method and system for characterization and compression of ultrashort pulses. It is described a flexible self-calibrating dispersion-scan technique and respective system to characterize and compress ultrashort laser pulses over a broad range of pulse parameters, where previous knowledge of the amount of dispersion introduced for each position or step of the compressor is not required. The self-calibrating d-scan operation is based on the numerical retrieval of the spectral phase of the pulses using an optimization algorithm, where the spectral phase is treated as a multi-parameter unknown variable, and where the unknown dispersion of the dispersion scanning system is described by a theoretical model of its functional dependence on the compressor position.

Abstract

An apparatus and a method for in-line measurement of laser pulses with time-dependent polarization are described, which make possible to carry out in-line measurement of laser pulses whose polarization depends on time. For this, one or more polarization projections are selected: the spectrometer detects the projection on the extraordinary propagation axis of a birefringent system to measure the spectrum in that component, also the projection on the ordinary propagation axis, to measure the spectrum in that component, and finally a projection in an intermediate direction that allows to measure the interference spectrum between the two components. The method allows extracting the temporal evolution of the pulse and its polarization state as a function of time, spectral amplitudes and phases of the various polarization projections of the beam.

Abstract

An apparatus and method are described for the online measurement of laser pulses with time-dependent polarisation, which apparatus and method allow laser pulses with time-dependent polarisation to be measured online. For that purpose, one or more polarisation projections are selected: the spectrometer detects the projection of a birefringent system along an extraordinary propagation axis in order to measure the spectrum in this component, the projection along the ordinary propagation axis in order to measure the spectrum in this component, and finally a projection in an intermediate direction that makes it possible to measure the interference spectrum between these two components. Abstract

The invention allows optimization of hearing and improvement of communication in users with auditory dysfunction (hypoacusis), permitting enhanced acoustic sensitivity and tuning in noisy surroundings and environments, e.g. cafeterias, bars, restaurants, etc. More specifically, the binaural sound-processing system (1) described herein is based on a combined, coordinated operating mode involving two sound processors (20), each installed so as to correspond to the user's ears. Thus, by means of this special link between the operating modes of the two sound processors (20), it is possible to obtain, at the output of each, a final stimulation pattern that is more "natural" and adjusted to the real acoustic conditions of each moment or situation.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining the presence of renal damage in an individual and also to a method for detecting one or several proteins selected from the list comprising Reg3B, fetuin B, Ras-related GTP- binding protein A, serine protease inhibitor A3L, subunit 1 of COP9, gamma subunit of ATP synthase, gelsolin, ribonuclease UK114, aminoacylase 1A, alpha-enolase, keratin 5, parvalbumin alpha, ribonuclease 4 or serine protease inhibitor A3K. The renal damage may be acute renal failure. Said renal pathologies may be caused by the administration of a nephrotoxic agent, wherein the nephrotoxic agent may be an aminoglycoside antibiotic such as gentamicin, or cisplatin. The invention also provides means to differentiate the renal damage or renal failure induced by gentamicin from that induced by cisplatin, through the biochemical analysis of the urinary level of Reg3B and/or gelsolin, or fragments thereof.

Abstract

The invention relates to the in vitro use of NF-kB inhibitors to induce the selective depletion of alloreactive T-lymphocytes, to derivative pharmaceutical compositions and to uses of same. More specifically, the invention relates to the in vitro use of NF-kB inhibitors to induce the selective depletion of alloreactive T-lymphocytes following mixed culture. In particular, the invention relates to the in vitro use of NF-kB inhibitors, preferably proteosome inhibitors and more preferably still bortezomib inhibitors in mixed lymphocyte cultures (MLR) in order to induce the selective depletion of alloreactive T-lymphocytes and to reduce the production of Th1 cytokines. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions and the therapeutic use thereof.

Abstract

A method that generates new flow cytometry data files with a potentially infinite number of dimensions is described. First two or more separate flow cytometry data files containing information about events measured in different aliquots from the same sample are fused. Then, the magnitude of the values and a corresponding uncertainty measure of the differing variables between one or more of the original data files which have been fused are estimated, for each individual event contained in the fused data file, for which that variable was not directly measured in the flow cytometer. The new data file containing both data actually measured in the flow cytometer for each event of the individual original data files fused and the estimated data for those parameters not measured in a group of events from one or more of the original data files are reconstructed multidimensionally.
