Abstract

The invention relates to a device and a method using said device for measuring levels of glucose in blood in a non-invasive manner. For this purpose, resonator microwave antennae are used which are disposed opposite one another with the tongue of the user, whose glucose level is to be measured, positioned between the two antennae. The variations in resonant frequencies in the antennae produced by the changes in the relative permittivity of the medium, the tongue, permit the level of glucose in the user, whose glucose level is to be measured, to be determined on the basis thereof, such that the responses to the changes can be processed via correlation in order to determine said glucose levels.

Abstract

The invention relates to a photovoltaic evaporative chimney for cooling a photovoltaic panel, using a current of air on the rear thereof, and for dissipating heat from a cooling cycle. The chimney is divided into two main parts. The first section, known as the evaporative zone, comprises a series of nozzles that spray water that flows parallel to the falling ambient air. As the water is falling a small part is evaporated, the remainder being cooled. This section operates as a small-scale cooling tower. The air that was in contact with the water floats up into the so-called convective zone. This second zone is basically a solar chimney in which the air is heated, causing said air to float. In turn the air rising through the convective section cools the photovoltaic panel, increasing the efficiency thereof. Fig. 1

Abstract

The invention relates to a catheter design characterised by having a variable number of openings (2) in the different drainage rings (3), such that the uniformity of the flow of the fluid through the catheter (1) is facilitated, while the possibility of the openings (2) being obstructed is minimised, and the flow can be redistributed should any of the openings (2) become obstructed, thereby lengthening the useful life of the device. The invention also relates to two possible opening (2) distribution configurations based on described patterns for the distribution of openings (2) in rings (3), differing in terms of the distance between rings (3), the number of openings (2) in each of the rings (3), and the rotation of same.

The invention relates to a dry additive for gypsum and to the production method thereof. The additive is characterised in that it comprises a base of polycarboxylic acid, specifically citric acid, to which colloidal silicon dioxide is added at a concentration of between 0.8 wt.-% and 1.2 wt.-% in relation to the acid. The additive takes the form of a dry powder that is mixed with the gypsum to be improved prior to mixture with water. The additive can be added to the dry gypsum mass during production. The production method begins with obtaining a base of citric acid in the form of solid crystals, to which colloidal silicon dioxide is added according to the indicated concentration, for subsequent mixing until homogeneous textures and colour are obtained.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing particleboard, having the same properties as particleboard made from wood particles or another lignocellulose material, which uses adhesives of any type and which is free of formaldehyde or other chemical or natural adhesives, the manufacture of said particleboard requiring the application of moderate levels of pressure and heat so as not to render the manufacturing cost of the product expensive. The method is primarily characterized in that it comprises a plurality of cycles of combined application of pressure and heat, reaching a temperature of between 90°C and 130°C and a pressure of between 25 and 35 kg/cm2, and the board is allowed to cool at the end of each cycle, one side of said board being moistened with water before application of the next cycle, the side which is moistened being alternated in each cycle.

Abstract

The present invention concerns a nanostructured hybrid material composed of at least two components: a metallic core, consisting of two or more gold nanoparticles, creating an aggregate or nanocluster of gold and a mould of an inorganic compound, preferably silica, which encases the metallic core, capable of absorbing near-nfrared radiation and the use thereof in a biotechnological application, preferabley, the treatment or prophylaxis of a pathology by photothermal therapy.

Abstract

The invention relates to the use of a peptide that comprises the amino acid sequence of the epidermal growth factor-like domain (EGF domain) of neuregulin 1 (NRG1), or a functionally equivalent variant or fragment thereof, or of a polynucleotide that codes for said peptide or functionally equivalent fragment or variant, or of a compound that induces the production and/or activity of said NRG1, in the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for treating disorders caused by changes in the axonal development of neurones in the nervous system.

Abstract

The present invention describes how therapeutic compounds with different isoforms of the Nrg1 gene containing the beta variant of the EGF domain are capable of promoting the growth of axons and the development of branching neurones that express receptors for this factor, such as ErbB4 and ErbB3. It also describes the use of said compounds in the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions and applications thereof in disorders involving changes in axonal development, spinal cord lesions, and neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.

Abstract

Snail is a protein directly involved in the aetiopathogeny of renal fibrosis as well as being a marker for this disease. Therefore, its identification may be used as a renal-fibrosis diagnostic. Also, furthermore, the Snail protein may be of great use in the identification of new drugs for the treatment of renal fibrosis and its gene inhibition as a form of treatment.
