Abstract

A method and device to monitor the anesthetic state of animal patients undergoing general anesthesia are provided. Electroencephalogram derived parameters are commonly used tools for anesthetic depth monitoring in human patients. However, there are no objective measures of anesthetic depth monitoring available for veterinary use. Furthermore, the parameters available for humans have showed inadequacy in animals. A robust invention which is adaptable to the species anesthetized and to the anesthetic drugs used is presented. This invention transforms (5, 6, 7, 8) the animal's EEG (4) into an easy to interpret parameter (10) that reflects the anesthetic depth. This parameter undergoes continuous optimization according to the anesthesiologists' input (9) regarding the animal anesthetic state, species and anesthetic protocol. This function performs fine tuning resulting in a parameter which correlates with anesthetic state, optimized for each species and anesthetic protocol, helping the anesthesiologist to adjust the drug doses and to automatically control the administration of anesthesia.

Abstract

The present invention refers to a non-destructive method for vigor and vegetative expression determination in tree- shrub vegetation, which is oriented along surfaces (e.g. grapevines and actinideae), regardless of their variety group. The method consists of acquiring an on-field digital image of the grapevine (1), which is subject to digital processing (2), giving way for the identification, localization and isolation of the reference mark (5), which will allow determining the area of a pixel, and the grapevine canes (6), in order to calculate the total area of the canes. Based on a pixel area in the total area of the canes, on the cane quantity and on the medium area per cane and medium weight per cane polynomial ratio (3), the vigor and vegetative expression (4) are thus obtained. The application field of this method may be, for example, the Wine-growing sector.

Abstract

The present invention relates to new hybrid vanadium catalysts of general formula I wherein: n = 1 to 4; R1 and R2 can be different or the same and independently represent -H, -X (halogen), straight or branched C1 to C4 alkyl, -NO2, -OH, -OMe, -OEt; and A is a support material with -OH functional groups on the surface thereof. The present invention also incorporates the use of these complexes to selective cycloalkane oxidation processes for producing cyclic alcohols and ketones. When used in the oxidation process, the new vanadium catalysts allow high conversion and selectivity with regard to the corresponding reaction products, making use of dioxygen (O2), a cheap oxidant available in the air, under moderate reaction conditions, in the presence or absence of heterocyclic acids.

Abstract

The present invention describes a method for extracting DNA from Vitis vinifera L. comprising the following stages: a. precipitating the wine or must samples with isopropanol or 2 propanol, extracting and collecting the pellet; b. incubating the sample resulting from the previous stage with an extraction buffer comprising: • preferably a membrane solubilizer; • one or more anti-oxidizing agents; • a chelant of divalent cations, Mg+2 and/or Ca+2; c. performing one or more extractions on the sample resulting from the previous stage using chloroform and/or phenol; d. performing one or more periods of precipitation and incubation with RNases; e. detecting the grapevine varieties or cultivars. The invention also describes a DNA extraction kit for wine or must samples comprising a solution that contains said extraction buffer, and the extraction is conducted according to the described method. The method and kit can be implemented as a traceability system for ascertaining the origin of the product, detecting counterfeits and mislabelling, and represents an advantageous solution in that it allows grapevine DNA extraction from monovarietal, varietal and commercial musts and wines, thereby making the detection and quantification of different grapevine varieties in musts and wines possible.

Abstract

The present invention finds application in food industry and refers to a process for obtaining mushroom dietary fiber obtained from mushroom residues and surpluses from mushroom production. This process includes the treatment and optimization of mushroom residues and surpluses from mushroom production, creating a product with appropriate characteristics to be used as food ingredient, specifically as a dietary fiber. The process consists of milling and separating the components without dietary fiber effect of the mushroom residues and whole mushrooms with an alkaline solution containing hydrogen peroxide, having an enrichment in dietary fiber, the final product presenting a low caloric content and a polysaccharide composition different from the fibers obtained from vegetable sources and cereal usually used for the production of this food ingredient.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a continuous monitoring system for shock absorbers, for use in motor vehicles or in any kind of machine which requires them, which will enable the shock absorbers to be evaluated during normal operation. It is essentially characterised by all the necessary components being embedded into the shock absorber itself, in a single circuit 1 or several integrated interconnected circuits, which are equipped with means of identification which provide the vehicle's or machine's various electronic management systems with the necessary information regarding shock absorbers identification, characteristics and capacity for self- diagnosis. The aforementioned components include acceleration, pressure and temperature sensors 2, signal conditioning and processing circuits 3, a wireless communication system 4, power production 5 and storage system 7 and management electronics 6.

Abstract

This invention refers to an agglomeration process of wood fibres which consists of an impregnation and/or pulverisation of fibres with a pre-polymer of hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), a di-isocyanate and possibly a catalyst to obtain slabs of fibre agglomerations (fibreboards). Theagglomerating system used in the process is formaldehyde-free. It is therefore an alternative to the current processes that use formaldehyde-based agglomerates and also fulfils the most demanding environmental criteria. Thisprocess aims to produce agglomerated fibreboard slabs in different densities such as medium density fibreboard (MDF) and high density fibreboard (HDF) which have better physical and mechanical properties resulting therefore in a better quality product and therefore also enabling exemplary quality slabs to be obtained irrespective of the nature of the wood fibreboard whether it is hardwood or resin-based.

Abstract

This invention relates to a particle agglomeration process of wood and cork which uses an agglomerating system consisting of a pre-polymer of hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB), a di-isocyanate and possibly a catalyst in order to obtain agglomerations of cork and/or wood particles with new characteristics and with new particle compositions. These products are used in the particle agglomeration industry in the wood sector (wood particles boards), specifically in the panels and veneers sub-sector and in the cork agglomeration industry sub-sector. This process enables the industrial reprocessing of residues and sub-products of sectors of wood and cork and at the same plays its part towards solving environmental problems by creating a viable and profitable alternative to storage and/or burning and/or depositing in the ground, in particular for what is referred to as cork powder and 'terras' and some wood residues, in particular fibre and polishing dust.
