Abstract
A radiation detector with a patterned structure arranged to generate charged particles in response to photons which are incident on the patterned structure. A signal generation layer is arranged to generate signal charge in response to charged particles generated in the patterned structure which are incident on the signal generation layer. A barrier layer is arranged so that the signal generation layer is positioned between the patterned structure and barrier layer and in contact with the patterned structure and barrier layer. The patterned structure and barrier layer trap the signal charge in the signal generation layer. A plurality of collectors are provided, each collector arranged to collect the signal charge trapped in the signal generation layer. The patterned structure is patterned with a varying thickness so that it has a plurality of thick regions interspersed with a plurality of thin regions, a thickness of each of the thick regions being greater than a thickness of each of the thin regions.

Abstract
A radiation beam, for example a therapeutic radiation beam such as an IMRT or VMAT X-ray beam is monitored using a Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) detector. Photons of the radiation beam can interact with the MAPS detector, and the radiation beam configuration can be estimated from the determined positions of the interactions. The detector is made sufficiently thin that it interacts only very weakly with the X-ray photons. For example, less than 1 in 103 of the X-ray photons might interact with the detector. Hence, the disturbance to the X-ray beam is negligible.

Abstract
A device for determining the sensitivity of the skin of a subject is provided, the device comprising a body having a head for placing in contact with the skin of the subject; vibration means for imparting a vibration to the head; a switch assembly for activating the vibration means; wherein the switch assembly is operable by a user applying pressure to the switch assembly in a direction that does not apply pressure to the skin of the subject. A method of using the device is also disclosed.
