Abstract

A tube assembly includes at least first and second tubes configured for coupling at respective ends. The first and second tubes each include a base material, and a weld interface at the respective end. The weld interface is proximate to an inner diameter and an outer diameter of the first and second tubes, and includes a weld interface segment extending therebetween. A work hardened weld assembly couples the base material of each of the first and second tubes. The work hardened weld assembly includes a weld fusion zone between the weld interfaces of the first and second tubes and the weld interface segments of the first and second tubes. The weld fusion zone is work hardened and at least the weld interface segments of the first and second tubes are work hardened between the work hardened weld fusion zone and the base material of the first and second tubes.

Abstract

A method of forming a heat exchanger tube, particularly suited for condensing applications, contemplates cold-rolling a metallic strip to emboss a hydrophobic surface texture, to thereby form an embossed surface on the metallic strip. The method includes roll forming the metallic strip to a tubular shape, with the embossed surface on the exterior of the tubular shape, and welding the edges of the roll-formed strip to form a heat exchanger tube. Cold-rolling to emboss a hydrophobic surface texture exhibiting a contact angle of at least about 75° is contemplated, with processing including heat-treatment to minimize degradation of the hydrophobic surface texture, and roll-forming to avoid deformation of the hydrophobic surface texture,

Abstract

A crush guiding tube assembly includes large and small profile tube portions. A crush guide interface is between the large and small profile tube portions. The crush guide interface includes a recess collar and a guide collar. The recess collar extends inwardly from a large interface joint of the large profile tube portion to a guide joint. The guide collar tapers inwardly from a small interface joint of the small profile tube portion to the guide joint, and the guide collar extends toward the large profile tube portion. The guide collar tapers inwardly according to recessing of the guide joint from the large profile tube portion. In a working configuration the guide collar tapers at a first guide angle relative to the small profile tube portion. In a crushing configuration the guide collar tapers at a second guide angle greater than the first guide angle.
