VEHICLE GLAZING PANEL CUT OUT APPARATUS AND TECHNIQUE
A glazing panel cut out system for use with a cutting wire (41) in cutting out a vehicle glazing panel cut out procedure has a dispenser unit (2) for dispensing cutting wire and a winder unit (1) for winding the wire, both being mounted to the glazing panel during use. The winder unit has one or more winder spools (4,5) for winding the cutting wire (41) dispensed from the dispenser (2). The cutting wire is paid out from the dispenser whilst mounted to the glazing panel during the cut out procedure.
In hot ambient conditions (particularly in climates having strong sunshine) vehicle glazing panels can reach high temperatures frequently in excess of 50°C and on occasions up to 90°C plus. In such high temperature conditions it is a known problem that small glazing panel breaks or cracks can become elongated (or result in shattering of the glazing panel) when stresses are applied to the glazing panel. The invention provides a method of repairing a flaw (such as a crack or break) in a vehicle glazing panel by first, wetting the surface of the glazing panel in the vicinity of the flaw and then generating a forced air flow to enhance evaporation of the wetted glazing panel, and subsequently conducting a repair process on the flaw.

A method of investigating a glazing panel is disclosed in which a first investigation image of a target zone of the glazing panel is captured and a second investigation image of the target zone is captured. Image data from the first and second investigation images are combined to provide an output representative of the condition of the glazing panel at the target zone. The two investigation images are taken using respectively a black and a white background on the other side of the glazing panel.
A panel or screen is released from a frame or mounting to which the panel or screen is bonded by bonding material adhering to the reverse face of the panel or screen. The position of the bonding material is mapped by directing the energy though the screen or panel via the obverse face of the screen or panel and detecting energy reflected away from the reverse face of the panel or screen via the obverse face. At screen or panel locations where bonding material has been detected as present, light may be directed through the screen or panel via the obverse face, the light energy being of intensity and wavelength to effect thermal or chemical release of the screen or panel from the frame or mounting.

A control algorithm can provide for a number of cascading control active states in which different levels of activation and immobilisation can be triggered dependent upon how the user interacts with the system.
