In order to improve the hygiene conditions at the milking station, the present invention proposes assigning associated means (16) for removing contaminants stuck to the floor to the floor of the accommodating area (2). The invention relates to a method for the computer-based identification of mastitis in the milk-producing animals of a herd. According to said method, individual animals are automatically identified by an animal identification system that forms part of a herd management system and a milk sample that is assigned to an animal is taken and analysed for mastitis. The invention takes into account the fact that different animals in a herd can have an individual tendency to contract mastitis, so that not all the animals in said herd have to be examined with the same frequency for a possible case of mastitis.
