In a first control mode, the sensing elements receive a user input and control the vehicle function with a first control scheme and in a second control mode the sensing elements control the vehicle function with a second control scheme. The surface of the trim comprises no visible indicia thereon representative of the vehicle function prior to detection of a user input. The sensing elements are configured to detect a switching user input and switch from the first control mode to the second control mode. A light source is operable to illuminate the cover layer to indicate the sensing elements are in the second control mode.

An adjustable throttle pedal assembly comprises a depressible throttle pedal, biased away from the depressed position, towards a rest position, and an electromagnetic brake, operable to adjust the force required to depress the throttle pedal. Abstract

A method of assessing damage to a composite member requires the formation of a composite member comprising at least one cavity. A first pressure differential is then established between the cavity and the surrounding ambient pressure. The rate of change of the pressure differential over a first predetermined period is monitored and then the pressure differential is allowed to subside. The result of the monitoring step is stored as a reference value, so that after the composite member is damaged, or after it has been in service for a predetermined time, the test can be repeated and compared with the reference value. An instrument panel has an aperture in which a display may be arranged. The instrument panel further comprises a rotatable display mechanism. The mechanism comprising at least three display surfaces supported on a rotatable support. A first display surface comprises a touch sensitive display screen; a second display surface comprises at least one dial or gauge; and a third display surface comprises a trim element. Abstract

Apparatus for a vehicle is provided such that the throttle pedal can act as a virtual footrest. The apparatus comprises a pedal adapted to be depressed by a driver and a restriction mechanism adapted to restrict the displacement of the pedal. Abstract

A door handle assembly is provided in the door of an automobile. The assembly includes an aperture in the outer skin of the door and a cover plate which closes off the aperture. The cover plate is retractable into a pocket behind the aperture, to open the aperture and allow a user to insert his/her fingers into the aperture. Abstract

A handling strut connects the powertrain of an automobile to a structural member, such as a panel in the engine bay. The handling strut is comprised of two strut members, one connected to the powertrain, the other connected to the structural member. A shaft attached to one strut member, extends through a bushing provided in the other strut member and an air gap is provided between the bushing and the shaft, such that when the engine is idle, or not accelerating, and in the absence of hard cornering, the strut members are decoupled. The isolation of the strut members when not required to control engine roll, reduces/avoids transmission of noise, vibration and/or harshness.
