Abstract
An ammonium polyphosphate based fire-retardant composition comprises an ammonium polyphosphate or a diammonium phosphate, a suspending agent, a coloring agent, a surfactant, a thickening agent, and a corrosion inhibiting agent. The fire-retardant composition may include about 10.0 wt% ammonium polyphosphate and may include about 90.0 wt% diammonium phosphate (DAP).The surfactant may be selected from the group of surfactants including sulfonates, sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, and foams. The emulsifier may be selected from the group of emulsifiers including carboxyl acids, carboxylates, carboxymethyl cellulose, catechins, lignosulfonates, nanocrystals of lignin, and nanocrystals of cellulose. The surfactant may be an emulsifier. The thickening agent may be Xanthan gum with a weight average particle size diameter greater than 100 microns. The corrosion inhibiting agent may be potassium ferricyanide or potassium ferrocyanide. The fire-retardant composition further includes a corrosion inhibiting agent selected from the group of corrosion inhibiting agents including benzotriazole, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, ammonium benzoate, and sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Abstract
There is provided the use of cellulose nanocrystals as a corrosion inhibitor for inhibiting corrosion of a metal object made of steel. The use includes using acid to impart ester groups onto the cellulose nanocrystals. The use includes dispersing an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of the cellulose nanocrystals having the ester groups within a composition comprising a carrier essentially consisting of water. The cellulose nanocrystals are provided in an amount equal to or greater than 0.1% by weight of the carrier and equal to or less than 3.0% by weight of the carrier. The use includes applying an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of the composition to the metal object such that the composition is adapted to inhibit corrosion of the metal object by 8% or more.
