Abstract

A microparticle filter suitable for filtering microparticles from effluent from a textile treatment apparatus. The filter comprises a filter chamber comprising chamber walls, an inlet and an outlet. The filter also comprises a filter medium contained within the filter chamber. The filter medium is configured to filter microparticles from the effluent forming a filter residue and providing a filtered effluent to the outlet. The filter comprises a filter residue collection chamber located external to the filter chamber, and a filter residue removal apparatus. The chamber walls comprise an opening and a moveable member movable between a first and a second configuration; wherein: in the first configuration the moveable member cooperates with the chamber walls to seal the filter chamber so entry of the effluent into the filter chamber is through the inlet only and exit of the filtered effluent from the filter chamber is through the outlet only. In the second configuration the moveable member has moved to provide an opening in the chamber walls so that the filter residue removal apparatus is operable to remove filter residue from the within the filter chamber to the filter residue collection chamber through the opening. The present disclosure also relates to textile treatment apparatus comprising the microparticle filter, to the use of the microparticle filter and the textile treatment apparatus, and to methods of filtering microparticles from effluent from a treated textile.

A centrifugal filter unit for an apparatus for use in the treatment of a substrate with a treatment formulation is provided. The centrifugal filter unit includes a) a housing having an outlet; b) an inlet; c) a filter rotatably mounted in the housing and having a side wall with perforations that allow liquid to pass through but prevent solid material from passing through; d) an aperture; and e) a drive for rotating the filter. A portion of the centrifugal filter unit in the filter chamber is removable and, when removed from the centrifugal filter unit following operation, takes with it at least a portion of the solid material prevented from passing through the perforations. The centrifugal filter unit is arranged such that the feed is drawn into the filter from the inlet through the aperture and the liquid is expelled through the perforations to the outlet and the solid material is retained in the filter. The removable portion is shaped to scrape against the side wall during removal.

Abstract

A method of treating an animal skin substrate comprising: agitating the animal skin substrate with a solid particulate material and a treatment liquor; separating the animal skin substrate from effluent comprising the solid particulate material, the treatment liquor and solid waste fragments derived from said substrate; transferring the effluent to a first separator, wherein the first separator is configured to allow the treatment liquor and at least a portion of the solid waste fragments to pass through the first separator but to prevent the solid particulate material from passing through the first separator, and providing a first filtrate stream comprising treatment liquor and solid waste fragments and a first residue comprising solid particulate material and residual solid waste fragments; treating said first residue to remove said residual solid waste fragments to provide cleaned solid particulate material, wherein said treating of said first residue comprises retaining said solid particulate material on a surface of a treatment separator during said treating, wherein the treatment separator is configured to allow liquid and residual solid waste fragments to pass through but to prevent the solid particulate material from passing through; and (i) directing a cleaning formulation onto said solid particulate material to provide a second filtrate stream comprising said cleaning formulation and said residual solid waste fragments and a second residue comprising cleaned solid particulate material; and/or (ii) agitating the treatment separator.

Abstract

An apparatus for treating at least one animal skin substrate with a multiplicity of solid particles comprises a rotatably mounted drum for containing said animal substrate, said solid particulate material and a treatment liquor, said drum comprising an outlet opening and a closure. The closure can be moveable between a first position wherein said outlet opening is closed and the animal substrate, the solid particulate material and the treatment liquor cannot pass through the outlet and are retained within the drum and a second position wherein said outlet opening is open such that solid particulate material and the treatment liquor can exit the drum through the outlet opening. The drum can further comprise an apertured screen arranged at the outlet and configured to permit passage through the outlet opening of the solid particulate material and the treatment liquor when the closure is in the second position and to prevent passage thereof through the outlet opening of the animal skin substrate. The apertured screen is suitably moveable from the outlet opening to permit loading and unloading of the animal skin substrate through the outlet opening when the closure is in the second position. A treatment method using the apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract

An appliance monitoring and reporting system, and a data acquisition device for monitoring an appliance. The appliance operates according to a plurality of cycles of operation, each denoted by a classification. The systems includes a data acquisition module configured to sense or receive signals indicative of the operation of the appliance, and a data processing module configured to receive and process information based on the sensed or received signals from the module. The data processing module includes a memory for storing a plurality of classifications and a corresponding plurality of sets of reference data, and a processor configured to compare the received information to the plurality of sets of reference data, identify a match and, upon doing so, determine the classification associated with the matched set of reference data. The data acquisition device is removably attachable to the appliance and including one or more sensors, each sensor being removably attachable to a component of the appliance for sensing a state of that component.

Abstract

Animal skin substrate treatment apparatus and method An apparatus for treating at least one animal skin substrate with a multiplicity of solid particles comprises a rotatably mounted drum for containing said animal substrate, said solid particulate material and a treatment liquor, said drum comprising an outlet opening and a closure. The apertured screen is suitably moveable from the outlet opening to permit loading and unloading of the animal skin substrate through the outlet opening when the closure is in the second position.A treatment method using the apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract

The invention relates to an improved method and apparatus for the treatment of animal skin substrates which employs a multiplicity of solid particles. There is disclosed an apparatus for treating one or more animal skin substrates with a multiplicity of solid particles and treatment liquor comprising: a rotatably mounted drum comprising an internal volume having a first portion defining a treatment volume for retaining said animal substrates and a second portion defining a collecting volume; one or more inlets for introducing solid particles and treatment liquor into said treatment volume; a partition separating said treatment volume from said collecting volume wherein said partition allows free passage of solid particles from the treatment volume to the collecting volume and prevents the passage of the substrates therethrough; a circulation path for conveying said solid particles from the collecting volume to the treatment volume; and a pumping device arranged to pump solid particles and said treatment liquor along a portion of said circulation path.
