Abstract

A paper based overlay is provided. The overlay has a paper impregnated with a resin composition having an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature in a range of from about -20 ºC to about 40 ºC and a resin content from about 15 to about 35 wt. % based on the weight of the overlay and an adhesive is applied at the back of a substrate. The acrylic composition may include wax in the amount of about 0.005 to about 3.5 wt.% based on the weight of the resin composition. A method of producing the overlay is also provided. The overlay is highly water and abrasion resistant with low volatile content.

Abstract

A blended furnish with improved performance characteristics while reducing environmental impact, when applied to a substrate and methods of making and using blended furnish are provided. A blended furnish comprises a urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin or a melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin; a lignosulfonate, a kraft lignin or a sulfonated lignin; a deep eutectic solvent; an alkaline compound; optionally an additive; and a plurality of substrates, wherein the blended furnish has a buffer capacity of 2-200 mL of 0.1 N HCl by the Acid Titration Value (ATV) Method using 20 grams of blended furnish for a period of time up to 20 days. A composite product using a blended furnish is also provided.

Abstract

A method of preparing a slip resistant surface is provided. The method includes applying a viscous composition to a surface of a substrate, forming a surface pattern comprising a plurality of protrusions within the opposing surface and solidifying the layer of viscous composition to (i) provide the slip resistant surface from the surface pattern and (ii) bond the adhering surface to the surface of the substrate. A slip resistant substrate is also provided.

Abstract

A paper based overlay is provided. The overlay has a paper impregnated with a resin composition having an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature in a range of from about −20° C. to about 40° C. and a resin content from about 15 to about 35 wt. % based on the weight of the overlay and an adhesive is applied at the back of a substrate. The acrylic composition may include wax in the amount of about 0.005 to about 3.5 wt. % based on the weight of the resin composition. A method of producing the overlay is also provided. The overlay is highly water and abrasion resistant with low volatile content.

Geopolymer compositions, and methods of making and using the same are provided. Coatings and composite products prepared from geopolymer compositions are also provided. In some embodiments, an alkali metal geopolymer composition can include a metakaolin; an alkali silicate in a solvent; and at least one filler. In one embodiment, a coating prepared from the alkali metal geopolymer compositions is provided.

No added formaldehyde (NAF) compositions and composite products are provided. A continuous process is provided for preparing a solid gel resin selected from resorcinol-formaldehyde gel resins, phenol-formaldehyde gel resins, and phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde gel resins, using an extruder having at least one feed zone with a first temperature and at least one reaction zone with a second temperature that is higher than the first temperature. Abstract

Process and apparatus for non-invasive measuring of binder mix loading of
glass fibers for monitoring production of construction insulation product,
such as roofing and wall insulation. Visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR)
spectroscopy is used on a static or moving support substrate, and is
advantageous when utilized in an on-line production processing following
binder mix loading of fibers and prior to curing treatment of binder mix and
fibers. The blend is then conveyed to and through curing treatment to form
insulation product, then exposed to VIS-NIR radiant energy and a sensor
collects resulting data for absorption following penetration of the VIS-NIR
radiant energy. The spectrophotometer is calibrated to facilitate accuracy;
and, can be used to verify loading following during. The amount of binder mix,
in the binder mix/fiber blend, is adjusted if the blend is outside of desired
loading specifications.

A formaldehyde-free curable aqueous composition containing polyvinyl alcohol,
a multi- functional crosslinking agent, and, optionally, a catalyst. The
