Abstract

A settop box (STB) and an advertising method using the STB are provided. In the advertising method, the STB receives a requested information requesting signal from a user. Then, in response to the requested information requesting signal, while the interface area is being activated, advertisement/image information is displayed so that an area where requested information is displayed and an area where the at least one piece of advertisement information is displayed overlap with each other on the interface area.

Abstract

A reserved recording method and system is provided. In the reserved recording method, a recording setting apparatus receives at least one piece of reserved recording information used to record one of a plurality of broadcasting programs, and receives a reserved recording check request signal from an input device. Then, the recording setting apparatus displays recording check information including at least one piece of information from among broadcasting programs incapable of being reserved-recorded from among the plurality of broadcasting programs, information about broadcasting hours when reserved recording is impossible, broadcasting programs capable of being reserved-recorded from among the plurality of broadcasting programs, and information about broadcasting hours when reserved recording is possible, on the basis of the at least one piece of reserved recording information in response to the reserved recording check request signal, wherein the displaying is performed in the recording setting apparatus.

Abstract

An electronic program guide (EPG) information providing method and an EPG information providing system are provided. In the EPG information providing system, a first transport stream including first EPG information is received via a channel selected from a plurality of channels, and the first EPG information is extracted from the received transport stream. The reception channel selected from the plurality of channels is automatically changed in response to a predetermined channel selection signal. A second transport stream which is input via each changed channel and includes second EPG information is received, and the second EPG information is extracted from the second transport stream and stored. A keyword is generated on the basis of received EPG information, and additional information is generated by searching for the keyword using a predetermined search server and transmitted to a viewer.
