The present invention is directed to a lamellar wash composition having a surfactant system with total anionic that has less than 40% by weight isethionate, and an amphoteric, zwitterionic or both. The composition is stable and has no or reduced amounts of structurant derived from palm kernel oil. The composition surprisingly provides excellent sensory and lathering characteristics and remains stable in lamellar phase.
