Abstract

Tire with radial carcass reinforcement having a tread of thickness E, this tread having a tread surface and at least one cut opening onto the tread surface to form edge corners. The cut extends into the tread over a total depth H. The cut is in the form of a sipe having a width D. There is also formed, in the vicinity, i.e. at a minimum distance from the said edge corner that is at most equal to five times the width D of the cut, of at least one edge corner of this cut and on the tread surface, at least one cavity having a depth h that is small in comparison with the depth of the cut, i.e. that is at most equal to 30% of the depth H. The at least one cavity reduces the compression rigidity of the tread in the vicinity of the the at least one edge corner.

Abstract

A non-pneumatic wheel (100) including a hub (300) and a non- pneumatic tire (102), as well as a method for mounting the non- pneumatic tire (102) onto the hub (300). The hub (300) is formed, with grooves (318) that receive the radially-inner ends (110) of spokes (106) of the non-pneumatic tire (102). To secure the tire (102) onto the hub (300) during assembly, the grooves (318) with the radially inner ends (110) of the spokes (106) received therein are pulled radially inward to decrease the diameter of the hub (300) and increase tension in the spokes (106).

Abstract

The tire vulcanizing mould includes a plurality of segments for molding the outside of the tire tread. The segments are able to move radially between a position in which the mold is open and a position in which the mold is closed. The segments have frustoconical bearing surfaces that are placed radially on the outside. An axially mobile external ring, which acts on the frustoconical bearing surfaces, is placed radially on the outside of the segments in order to cause them to close and to move back from their position of closure in the mold. The external ring is radially preloaded towards the inside when the mold is in the open position.

Abstract

The tread has a total width W and two main grooves. The main grooves divide the tread into a middle region and edge regions. The middle region has an axial width Lm that is 45% to 70% of the total width W. The volume void ratio of the tread when new is less than 17%. An internal surface extends parallel to the tread surface when new and is in contact radially with the innermost points of the deepest main grooves. The middle part has a plurality of transverse sipes, each of which has a depth at least equal to the depth of the main grooves. The transverse sipes open into the main grooves. The middle region has a volume void ratio when new that is less than half the total volume void ratio of the tread, and at least one circumferential channel appears when the tread becomes part worn.

Abstract

The tread has a wearable thickness of material EMU and has raised elements delimited by grooves. Each solid part has a contact face and a cavity with a depth greater than 50% of the wearable thickness. Each cavity opens onto the contact face when new and is delimited by a wall surface and a bottom surface. Each wall surface deliminates a cavity that intersects the contact face along a corner edge contour that has a geometry that has a major axis which is at least 1.5 times the length of a minor axis when new. For any tread surface down to a predefined wear level, the level is at most 30% of the wearable thickness of material EMU, and the angle between the major axis and the circumferential direction is between 0 and 40 degrees. After the wear level, the angle is greater than 40 degrees.

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a tread for a tire. The tread includes at least one elongate block of rubbery material of width W and length L with L>>W. This elongate block extends in a circumferential direction (X) when the tread is mounted on the tire. The elongate block includes a contact surface intended to come into contact with the ground and a first lateral wall and a second lateral wall delimiting this contact surface. The elongate block includes a plurality of sipes opening onto the contact surface of the elongate block, with each sine extending in an oblique direction opening onto the first lateral wall and onto the second lateral wall. The sipes are distributed over the contact surface of the block in such a way that when one sipe reaches the second lateral wall another sipe starts out from the first lateral wall, at a same circumferential level (N) on the elongate block. With the sipes delimiting sub-blocks in the elongate block, at least two of these sub-blocks are configured differently in the tread.

Abstract

Particular embodiments of the invention include apparatus and methods for compensating for shrinkage of a polymeric material in a mold during curing operations. Embodiments of the method include providing a mold comprising a molding cavity defining an interior mold volume separated from an exterior environment and introducing a volume of polymeric material into the molding cavity. Such methods further include impeding the development of a void in the volume of polymeric material by, either: isolating the volume of polymeric material within the molding cavity from the exterior environment, or reducing the interior mold volume of the molding cavity to at least substantially consume a volume of polymeric material shrinkage. Such methods further include curing the polymeric material to form a molded polymeric form.
