The invention concerns a current cut-off switch enabling the electric arcs produced in an electric circuit during circuit cut-off and closing operations to be extinguished rapidly, effectively and completely, making it particularly suitable for use in the event of direct current failure. The switch comprises at least one pair of fixed contacts (4, 4') and a movable contact (9) mounted in a rotor (2) made of insulating material. The rotor (2) is adapted to move so as to define a helical movement relative to the fixed contacts. The switch enables the current to be cut off solidly since the insulating material of the rotor (2) is interposed immediately between the two fixed contacts (4, 4') at the very moment when the power is cut off.

The invention relates to a current cut-off switch that can be used for the rapid, effective and complete extinguishing of electric arcs produced in an electric circuit during operations for cutting-off and closing the circuit, making it particularly suitable for cutting off direct current.
