Embodiments of the invention provide a tablet device comprising a middle frame assembly having pockets configured to hold components of the tablet device. The middle frame assembly comprises a machined layer, a sheet metal layer; and a molded piece that includes component pockets. These layers also facilitate forming other component pockets. Embodiments of the invention further provide a tablet device comprising a power button assembly that fits into a component pocket, the power button assembly comprising a pair of removable metal pads in contact with a power button to restrict its movement, a pair of rubber feet remain in contact the pair of removable metal pads, a pair of sponges contact with the power button and an internal switch receives the power button's actuation and transmits a start signal to an electromechanical switch, the internal switch and the sponges form a spring that pushes the power button back into place. Abstract

One embodiment of a device mount establishes an electrical connection between a display device and an input mechanism. The device mount comprises a backplate that couples a display device and a support panel for supporting the backplate. A conductive pin of the backplate contacts a complementary receptacle the coupled display device to establish an electrical connection between the display device and electronics in the backplate. A conductor connects the device electronics in the backplate to a first conductive plate. The support panel comprises a second conductive contact and a conductor connecting the second conductive contact to a controller coupled to the bottom plate that encoding inputs received at the input mechanism into instructions for the display device and transmits the instructions to the display device. Rotation of the support panel moves the second conductive contact into contact with the first conductive contact to establish an electrical connection between the two.

Abstract

Embodiments provide a pen-stylus have a first antenna having a hemispherical shape at a proximal end where the pen-stylus engages with a tablet device's display. The pen-stylus also includes a second antenna, wherein the first antenna and the second antenna communicate with the tablet device to enable users to draw on the tablet device's display. The pen-stylus includes an insulating material between the first and second antennas that prevents interference between the two antennas. In a Creative Mode, users may enter text, make annotations, drawings and take other creative actions. In a Refine Mode, the user may make edits to text, annotations, and drawings, and make other refinements to the actions they have taken in the Creative Mode. The hardware and software of the e-paper tablet support these two modes, including a special hardware key on a keyboard associated with the e-paper tablet that enables users to switch between the two modes. Embodiments of the invention provide an active pen-stylus that emulates a paper feeling for users of the active pen-stylus. The active pen-stylus comprises a writing shaft that receives physical forces arising from use of the pen-stylus by a user.
