Abstract

A camera having at least one image sensor includes a pixel array with at least three colors of narrowband pixels and wideband pixels. The camera is operable in a first mode in which the image sensor has first gain settings and generates an output having a first response. The camera is also operable in a second mode in which the image sensor has second gain settings and generates an output having second response. The image sensor is configured to generate a digital output in which the wideband pixels have a spectral output response approximately equal to the sum of spectral output responses of the narrowband pixels in the first mode. The image sensor is further configured to generate a digital output in which the wideband pixels have a spectral output response greater than in said first mode when in the second mode.

Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods of transforming an nth symbol of a first data sequence into an mth symbol of a second data sequence. Also disclosed is a method of decoding an mth symbol of a second data sequence having a second data type and being created by encoding the nth symbol of a first data sequence having a first data type, said decoding generating an output symbol having said first data type. There is also disclosed encoding and decoding devices. For example, the encoding device comprises an input on which a first data sequence is received, an output on which a second data sequence is transmitted and a processing system configured to process received symbols of the first data sequence in series and output symbols of the second data sequence.

Abstract

A method of a performing a plurality of processing operations on a plurality of audio entities using a computer system having multiple data processing units includes allocating each data processing operation to one of the data processing units, such that the data processing operation is performed on said one of the data processing units. The allocation is based at least partly on an expected execution time for the data processing operation on said one of the data processing units to which it is allocated. The method further includes performing the plurality of processing operations on said plurality of audio entities according to the allocation and outputting processed audio. Allocating each data processing operation to one of the data processing units includes identifying one or more realtime processing operations that must be performed in a predetermined time period, and allocating said realtime processing operations to be performed before non-realtime processing operations.

The image sensor includes an array of pixels, each of which corresponds to a filter element in the filter array, so that each pixel has a spectral response at least partly defined by a corresponding filter element. The filter array includes a pattern of wideband filter elements and at least two types of narrowband filter elements. The method includes the step of generating a luminance image comprising a wideband filter element value that is calculated for each pixel of the image sensor.

Abstract

Methods, software products, digital cameras and other image processing systems process a set of transform coefficients. In at least one embodiment, the method comprises, for each block of transform coefficients representing an image: ordering the block's coefficients into a sequence; encoding the ordered coefficients to yield a sequence of codewords, each codeword including one or more encoded coefficients; and dividing the sequence of codewords into two or more sub-sequences.

Abstract

A method of processing image data that is represented in a frequency domain includes the step of applying a noise signal to the image data to yield noise-applied image data. In at least one embodiment, the image data includes one or more sets of coefficients arising from application of a discrete cosine transform, each set of coefficients comprising a DC coefficient and one or more AC coefficients. The noise signal is applied to the image data by modifying one or more of the coefficients in one or more of the sets. The modifying includes replacing one or more of the AC coefficients with random or pseudo random numbers having a distribution. Noise present in the image data may be equalized, prior to the step of applying the noise signal.

Abstract

A digital video camera, including a heat management system, which includes at least one inlet and at least one outlet in the housing to enable air to flow through the housing. The heat management system also includes a first heat sink thermally connected to an image sensor(s), and a second heat sink thermally connected to a data processing unit(s), and a centrifugal fan. The centrifugal fan is configured to draw air into the front of the fan in an axial direction and push air radially out in a sideways direction, whereby air travels through the inlet(s) over the first heat sink and then over the second heat sink to the outlet(s).

The camera is configured to receive light and generate image data using an image sensor having an associated filter array.

Abstract

Processing raw image data in a camera includes computing a luminance image from the raw image data, and computing a chrominance image corresponding to at least one of the sensor's image colors from the raw image data. The luminance image and chrominance image(s) can represent the same range of colors able to be represented in the raw image data. The chrominance image can have a lower resolution than that of the luminance image. A camera for performing the method is also disclosed.

Abstract

Digitization of film, and more particularly film scanning, includes capturing light transmitted through the film so as to acquire a digitized image. This includes a captured frame comprising a digitized image of at least a portion of at least one image frame of a sequence of image frames, and at least a portion of one or more transport perforations. The method can further include determining an image offset corresponding to at least the captured frame on the basis of a comparison between at least one detected edge in the captured image and a corresponding datum location. A signal representing the image offset can be generated to enable alignment of at least the captured frame.

Abstract

A method of digitizing an audio track carried on an elongate recording medium, such as a movie film, includes transporting the recording medium containing the audio track past a reader to enable sequential reading of the audio track. The reading of the audio track generates an analog output signal. The method also includes sensing a rate of transportation of the recording medium, and sampling the analog output signal at a sampling rate determined on the basis of the sensed rate of transportation to digitize the analog output signal. A system for digitizing audio is also disclosed.

Abstract

A digital video camera includes a data processing pipeline being operable in a plurality of modes including a first mode in which said video output data is passed to a data storage system for storage on local non-volatile storage; a second mode in which said video output data is formatted into a native video data format of a video transmission system and passed to the video transmission system for transmission; and a third mode in which said video output data is processed into a video data format that is not a native video data format of the video transmission system and passed to the video transmission system for transmission to a secondary memory.
