Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a cloth gripping device (1) having two opposite gripping surfaces (50a) defining between them an elongated gap (3) for gripping a piece of cloth (2). The cloth gripping device (1) comprises a frame (10), two linkages (20) arranged opposite one another, and an actuator (60). Each of the two linkages (20) comprises at least one actuation link (30) movable back and forth in a longitudinal direction (30e) relative to the frame (10) between an advanced position and a retracted position, a pair of opposite connector links (40) having each a distal end (41) and a proximal end (42), the proximal ends (42) being pivotally connected to the frame (10), a gripping link (50) having a proximal end (52) and a distal end (51), the proximal end (52) of the gripping link (50) being pivotally connected to the at least one actuation link (30) and the distal end (51) being pivotally connected to each of the connector links (40), the distal end (51) of the gripping link (50) having a surface portion extending along the gap (3) to define one of the gripping surfaces (50a). The actuator (60) is configured for driving said actuation links (30) of said two linkages (20) back and forth in said longitudinal direction (30e). Moreover, each linkage (20) is configured such that when the actuation link(s) (30) move(s) along said longitudinal direction from said retracted position towards said advanced position then the gripping link (50) turns relative to the actuation link (30) for said two gripping surfaces (50a) to approach one another.

Abstract

A method for gripping, moving and releasing a piece of cloth with a gripper that is initially placed with opposed, movable, coherent, flexible surface parts in contact with the piece of cloth, and the surface parts are moved with respect to each other and with respect to the gripper in a gripping action, in order to pinch and hold on to the piece of cloth. The gripper with the piece of cloth pinched between the surface parts is moved to a different location, wherein the surface parts move in a reverse direction in order to release the piece of cloth. While in contact with the piece of cloth, the opposed surface parts are moved along a path which brings the surface parts both closer to each other and moves them in a direction away from the piece of cloth.

A gripper (1) initially is placed with opposed, movable, coherent, flexible surface parts (3) in contact with the piece of cloth (2), and the surface parts (3) are moved with respect to each other and with respect to the gripper (1) in a gripping action, in order to pinch and hold on to the piece of cloth (2), and the gripper (1) with the piece of cloth (2) pinched between the surface parts (3) is moved to a different location, and here the surface parts (3) are caused to move in a reverse direction in order to release the piece of cloth (2). While in contact with the piece of cloth (2)for the gripping action, the opposed surface parts (3) are moved along a path which brings the surface parts both closer to each other and moves them at least with respect to the gripper in a direction away from the piece of cloth to be grippe.
