Abstract

A process to manufacture three-dimensional articles by press and/or thermo-forming a substantially flat web comprising a cellulose-based material is provided; the process includes: providing more than one flat web as a dry intermediate product with a density included between 50 and 250 Kg/m3, each dry intermediate product comprising the cellulose-based material in an amount between 40% and 95% by weight and a binder material between 5% and 50% by weight; making a predetermined number of through cuts through the dry intermediate product defining a plurality of interconnected portions; superimposing the flat webs one on the other to obtain a multi-layer stack of flat webs and positioning the multi-layer stack in a form-shaping tool; activating the form-shaping tool to thermoform a three-dimensional article, wherein the interconnected portions move with respect to each other during the press- and/or thermo-forming, superimpose each other and are then irremovably interconnected in the three-dimensional article.
