The measuring device is configured to determine an electrical characteristic between two points on the flow path of the membrane pump, one point arranged upstream of the at least one valve and the other point arranged downstream of the at least one valve. The measuring device measures the electrical characteristic when the at least one valve is closed. The comparator is configured to monitor the electrical characteristic. The signal generator is arranged to provide an output signal when the electrical characteristic is indicative of a membrane pump usage condition.

The disclosure relates to a dialysis system comprising a dialysate side and a blood side. In particular, and for example, in some embodiments, a dialysis system is provided and comprises a dialyzer including and a blood filter configured to divide the dialyzer and dialysis system into a blood side and a dialysate side. A hemodialysis machine comprising a dialysate flow path for delivering a flow of dialysate solution through a dialyser, the flow path including a flow balancer for achieving a balance in the dialysate solution flow volume observed between an inlet and an outlet of the dialyser over the course of a treatment, the flow balancer comprising a first flow balance pump having an inlet valve and an outlet valve and a second flow balance pump having an inlet valve and an outlet valve, wherein the flow path further includes a flow restrictor means downstream of the flow balance pumps to reduce the pressure difference across the valves in the dialysate flow path.
A dialysis machine which monitors the pressure of blood entering and leaving a patient's body using several sensors (37, 39) and adapts the pressure of a dialysate solution feed to compensate for compliances in the dialysate fluid flow path. As a consequence, better flow balance is maintained throughout dialysis treatment leading to a more uniform removal of waste materials from the blood.

A method of preparing a dialysate solution for hemodialysis, the method including the steps of providing a mixing pump comprising a pump chamber covered by an actuable membrane, the chamber having a first inlet for admitting water into the chamber, a second inlet for admitting dialysate base solution into the chamber, and an outlet from the chamber, the method including the further steps of providing pump means for dispensing a predetermined volume of dialysate solution base into the chamber at a first pressure, actuating the membrane to draw a volume of water or water mix into the mixing pump chamber at a second pressure, wherein the magnitude of the first pressure is higher than the magnitude of the second pressure so as to ensure the complete dispense of the dialysate solution base into the chamber.
A monitoring device (1) is provided for monitoring the presence of a skin piercing vascular access device, for example a needle (4), the monitoring device comprising: a mount having an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver therein; attachment means (3) for attaching the mount to a patient adjacent a vascular access point such that, in use, a vascular access device (4) entering the patient at the vascular access point, passes underneath a sensing section of the base; control electronics to monitor the signal received at the receiver, and wherein when the vascular access device is underneath said sensing section, ultrasound produced by said transmitter passes through the patient skin and is reflected by the patients body tissues and by the vascular access device (4), and when the vascular access device (4) is not underneath said sensing section, ultrasound produced by said transmitter passes through the patients skin and is reflected by the patients body tissue only, and wherein the control electronics detects the presence of a vascular access (4) device by performing a comparison on the received ultrasonic signal. The device (1) warns if a needle (4) becomes dislodged during a treatment.
A dialyser connector comprising a main body and a sliding clip. The main body defines a cavity. The main body has a tube end and a dialyser end, with at least one aperture and a pair of ramps provided in a central portion between the tube end and the dialyser end. The sliding clip has a tube end and a dialyser end connected by a spine running along the top of the sliding clip. The sliding clip has a pair of flexible wings extending in an arc from the spine and a pair of arms extending in an arc from the spine, the pair of arms having at least one projection extending radially inward. The dialyser connector has a locked condition in which the at least one projection extends into the cavity of the main body and an unlocked conditions in which the at least one projection is withdrawn from the cavity of the main body, and wherein the at least one projection is biased to locked condition by action of pair of flexible wings on the pair of ramps.
A disposable connector for mating a dialysate source container to a dialysis machine comprises a body defining two ports and a collar disposed around one of said ports. The collar of said connector includes a stepped inner surface to seat a seal, a grip ring, and a retaining ring. The seal provides a fluid tight connection with a dialysate source container, whereas the grip ring is embedded in a stem of the dialysate source container so as to mate the connector to the container. The collar also has a series of windows and protrusions interspersed within the windows, which protrusions engage the retaining ring so as to secure the seal, the grip ring and the retaining ring on the stepped inner surface of the collar.
