Abstract

A water coolant circuit for a dental unit includes a plurality of defined dental device positions to which dental devices that use water coolant can be connected and a water coolant valve connected to the plurality of dental device positions and connectible to a pressurized water coolant source. The water coolant valve is operable via pulse width modulation (PWM) and selectively controllable to supply the water coolant from the water coolant source to at least one of the plurality of dental device positions at a time. The water coolant valve used for the plurality of dental device positions can have an associated water holdback valve for each of the dental device positions. A new proportional air coolant valve is described.

Abstract

Dental operatories with a plurality of networked devices may only require firmware updates for a subset of the devices. In embodiments, the plurality of networked devices are queried to determine a current firmware revision for each device. An update service then builds an update package that only includes firmware update images for those devices determined to have out of date firmware, thereby saving time and network bandwidth. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

Abstract

Systems and methods for synchronizing icons across interfaces for a dental chair are disclosed. In embodiments, a dental chair has a first interface and a second interface. Each interface includes a plurality of icons that graphically depict a stored position that can be actuated to command the chair to the stored position. The chair's position may be adjusted, and the adjusted position stored to one of the icons. Upon storage, the corresponding icon on both the first and second interfaces are updated to graphically depict the new stored position. Profiles that allow selection of different sets of stored positions may be provided. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

Abstract

A method for automatically initiating a dental handpiece waterline flushing mode in a dental delivery system comprises detecting whether at least first and second handpiece waterlines from a plurality of handpiece waterlines are removed from respective first and second rest positions of a control head for the dental delivery system. According to some implementations, if it is determined that no additional dental handpiece waterline which is flushable remains in a rest position of the control head, then the dental handpiece waterline flushing mode is automatically initiated for the first and second dental handpiece waterlines. In some implementations, a display is updated to provide information to a user, and an input from the user is received to begin flushing.

A dental delivery system can comprise a first fluid conduit for supplying fluid via the delivery system to a handpiece connected to a distal end of the conduit, a plurality of flow control adjusters positioned on the delivery system at a location remote from the at least one fluid conduit, and an indicator circuit comprising a plurality of sensors and a plurality of indicators corresponding to the plurality of flow control adjusters. A first flow control adjuster of the plurality of flow control adjusters can be operable to change a fluid flow rate in the first fluid conduit. A first sensor of the plurality of sensors can be operable to trigger a first indicator of the plurality of indicators in response to predetermined motion of the first fluid conduit to indicate that the first flow control adjuster is associated with the first fluid conduit.

Abstract

A positive positioning device comprises a plurality of stacked plates, a body, a spring-biased piston and a piston release device. The plurality of stacked plates have a central opening defined to receive a pivot shaft. The body houses the plurality of stacked plates and has an internal bore within which a cylinder is defined. The spring-biased piston is shaped to slide within the bore to apply a force to the stacked plates to resist rotation of a pivot shaft inserted through the central opening in the stacked plates. The piston release device is actuatable by a user to release the piston to decrease force applied to the stacked plates and allow free rotation of the pivot shaft.

Abstract

An adjustable armrest assembly for a stool or chair comprises an armrest base, an armrest support member and an adjustment assembly. The armrest base is connectible to the stool or chair and has a first opening. The armrest support member has a first end with a second opening. The first end is positionable with the second opening aligned with the first opening. The armrest support member has a second end opposite the first end and extending distally to support an armrest. An adjustment assembly is positionable to extend through the second opening and the first opening to define a pivot axis and an adjustable pivot connection between the support member and the base. The assembly is movable within at least one of the first opening and the second opening to laterally reposition the pivot axis. A variable friction member applies a selected degree of resistance to the adjustable pivot connection.

Abstract

An arm for supporting a monitor comprises a telescoping arm assembly, a support member and a cord storage device. The telescoping arm assembly has at least first and second telescoping members telescopingly movable relative to each other, a distal end configured to support a monitor and a hollow interior through which at least one cord from the monitor can be routed. The support member is connected to the telescoping arm assembly proximally of the distal end to suspend the telescoping arm assembly. The support member is configured to extend transverse to the telescoping arm assembly and to be attached to a support surface. The cord storage device is positioned at least partially within at least one of the telescoping arm assembly or the support member. The cord storage device winds and unwinds the cord from the monitor as the first and second telescoping members are moved toward and away from each other, respectively.

Abstract

Described herein are various embodiments of a dental delivery system. For example, in one exemplary embodiment, a rear dental delivery system through which at least one of water, air and vacuum are delivered for use by a care giver in treating a patient occupying a nearby dental chair can include at least one movable arm that is pivotably mounted to a pivot connection and an upright mounted to the at least one movable arm. The pivot connection can be mounted at approximately a floor level and the at least one movable arm can be configured to pivot slightly above the floor level so as to reduce obstruction in a space separating the dental chair from the dental delivery system.

Abstract

A fluid control system for use with a patient support apparatus is moveable from a first height to a second height. The system includes a lift arm and a substantially upright cylinder. A first end of the lift arm is pivotably coupled to a base member and a second end of the lift arm is coupled to a chair structure. The cylinder assembly has a base portion and an extendable member configured to contact and support the lift arm. The cylinder assembly includes a bypass valve having a first end in fluid contact with an upper reservoir and a second end in fluid contact with a lower reservoir.

Abstract

A patient support apparatus is configured to pivot about a pivot axis to move from an upright configuration to a reclined configuration. The apparatus comprises a first frame member, a pivot member, a pivot base member, and an actuator assembly. A first end of the actuator assembly is coupled to the pivot member at an area off-axis from the pivot axis and the second end of the actuator assembly is coupled to the pivot base member. Movement of the actuator assembly from a first configuration to a second configuration causes the pivot member to pivot about the pivot axis.

Abstract

A back for a patient chair having a back shell with a substantially rigid central S-shaped central portion and laterally extending wing portions which have sufficient flexibility to allow deflection in the direction of the front surface upon imposition of a force. The back consists of a formed back shell, a cushion layer laid thereover and an upholstery layer covering the cushion, with the upholstery layer adhered to the cushion and having edge margins wrapped around the outer edge margins of the cushion. The cushion and upholstery material are secured to the back shell through adhesive applied between the wrapped over edge margin portions of the upholstery material and the back shell.
